Ultrasound Says Not Gallstones, So What Is It Posted: 04-20-07 18:31pm
I have had five episode over the last year
where I begin to feel nauseated. This lead
to strong pain under my breast bone which
continues to increase until I vomit. The
episode lasts 1 to 3 hours. Pain under my
breast bone comes and goes as does
heartburn (even though I take Nexium).
Blood work and ultrasound say everything
is fine. Doctor said I should have a HIDA
scan. I'm not sure what to do at this
point. I've read different responses of
others who have had some of the same
symptom, but the scan didn't reveal
anything. Should I just put up with it?

Raff;
A hidascan can be helpful in diagnosing a
sluggish gall bladder, one which does not
properly empty as it should. Your
symptoms, although very uncomfortable and
awful for you to deal with at times, are
surprisingly not life threatening. (I
know it can feel that way, though). If
you are able to deal with this problem and
do not wish to have surgery, then there is
not much reason to go forward with a
hidascan if you do not want to. If,
however, your symptoms are severe enough
that you would consider surgery if the
test showed an improperly functioning gall
bladder, then go ahead and have the test.
