Frequent vomiting and nausea around food Posted: 04-21-07 02:07am
Son has been vomiting weekly since August.
Started initially after new job at fast
food place, when he was consuming high
volumes of fast food. He quit job, cut
back on fast food, but vomiting
continues.
Most frequently I observe him eating
dinner, and you can see him get a nauseous
look on face, face changes color, and he
gets up to vomit. Vomiting usually occurs
immediately when eating, or shortly
thereafter. Very rare is it a long time
after he eats. Have seen him get sick
from anything from pizza to baked chicken
to a smoothie. Vomiting is more frequent
with higher fat foods, but not exclusive.
He continues to have pain on left side,
and frequent vomiting.
What else could this be? What tests
should be done?
Given your son’s symptoms of vomiting
immediately after eating + all the medical
investigations seem to be OK (upper GI
endoscope, diffuse scalloping of duodenum
biopsy showed mild pathology, possibly
early Celiac Disease; Swallow test within
normal range, Ultrasound gallbladder/liver
only few floating cholesterol crystals,
X-Ray of colon area showed no masses or
strictures, excess fecal matter, STD
testing) ...he could be experiencing
bulimia. Bulimia is an eating disorder
due to psycho-emotional disorder. During
bulimia, a person experiences an excessive
eating followed by vomiting. Body weight
can be normal or decreased. Frequent
vomiting can create acid reflux, chronic
inflammation of the esophagus,
inflammation of the mouth mucosa and gums
(stomatitis and gingivitis) and tooth
decay. The only medical test that remains
is a colonoscopy. If the colonoscopy is
OK, you can ask for expert help from a
mental health doctor in the treatment of
the condition.
