Hi there Carol, thanks for that info, I am
seeing my doctor today so will ask him
about giving me a script for the Buspar
and hopefully he can refer me to someone
who can help. Otherwise as I mentioned to
Dyan there is Dentist who has a special
interest in TMJ disorders not that far
from where I live, so after seeing the
chiro tomorrow I will make an appointment
to go and see her.
Also I have had a habit for a long time
know of chewing my cheeks, could this also
have contributed to my TMJ? I am very
wary of doing it know and I am trying to
control it, but it is so hard to break a
habit!
Thanks for all your replies and comments,
I really appreciate the support.
Take care and god bless

I personally have benefited
from bite splints. The one I have now is
the best one I've had. It's thinner.
That really makes a big difference to my
small mouth. It's also a bottom one,
which I didn't think I would like after
years with a top one, but it's great! Try
and stay away from bulky ones.
There are different kinds of splints. Top
and/or bottom, sleeping or all day. I
don't know them all to list here but the
most common are flat plane (most used I
think) and repositioning which usually
means there is going to be more done to
your teeth later. I have a modified
repositioning bottom sleeping only one.
About a year after starting with it, my
teeth were filed to balance the bite, but
just a very little bit. I don't usually
recommend teeth filing or shaving until
you are pain free and absolutely sure your
teeth aren't going to shift anymore and
only a little bit needs to be done.
But, I have to warn you. Not all bite
splints are made equally as well as they
should. Some splint makers are just not
as good as others. You might be able to
find out if your dentist is good if he has
a lot of TMJ patients. Usually that means
he is well liked and has had lots of
practice.
Once you get a bite splint, it is
important to have it adjusted. Usually
frequently at first and then it tampers
down. In my opinion, the dentist should
not charge you extra for adjustments, but
I guess some do. Mine never have.
***.A good bite splint maker and adjuster
is worth his/her weight in gold.***
Jody - I hope the increase in Zoloft helps
but don't forget about the SSRI clenching
problem and possibly adding 7.5 or less mg
of Buspar.
Take care and God bless...

Hmm Jody? That is a good one. Cheek
chewing. I can suck in my cheeks and then
chew on them with no problems, but I don't
think I would want to do it very often. I
think it would depend on how and how much
you are moving your jaw and your teeth. I
do believe you might have to decide on
this one.
Let us know what your doc says.
God bless...

Saw my doctor yesterday and he has never
prescribed or even heard of Buspar. He is
a very cautious doctor and wasn't willing
to prescribe it to me.
I am seeing the Chiro this morning so
hopefully that may help me, I will also
discuss with him about seeing if he knows
any good dentists nearby that he
recommends. I am sure I need a splint as
I can actually feel my bottom jaw pushing
forward during the day, and sometimes it
seems a struggle to keep in back. Fingers
crossed I may have some relief after my
visit to him today.....
With regards to the my cheek chewing I
actually push my cheek to my teeth and I
push my jaw, so this has to stop. I sure
it doesnt help in anyway.
Thanks again for listening
Take care

i know that that was the distanc------that
is just the best doctor that you are going
to find. you wont find anyone that good
anywhere. I was told that no matter how
far that you travel to go to him it is
well worth it---that by another aussi
doctor. Let me know what you find.

New At This. Read Answers From Carol About Tmj Posted: 05-17-07 15:37pm
I think that tmj is what I have just
figured out I have. Reading your answers
Carol I'm going to try vitamins (already
taking b comples, fish oil and vitamin c
everyday. Any other vitamins you may
suggest over the counter would be of great
help. The stress thing I know is totally
me.
Thanks

Magnesium is an important mineral to help
relieve any night-time clenching or
grinding. Up to 1200 mg per day can be
taken. If it causes diarrhea, add calcium
with it. Some people do well with
Glucosamine but can bother any bursitis
you may have in your body.
Please take care. If there are any
questions or you just need to "talk,"
we're here (or pm or email).
God bless...

Hi Gary, nice to meet you too. Its been a
while since I've been on the forum. Which
for me is great because it means I am
doing so much better, and actually have
started to feel normal again. I have
stopped taking the Nurofen, which I was
taking very regularly. I did start seeing
a Chiro, and after about 5 visits, I
started feeling remarkably better.
I actually forgot how good it was to feel
normal. I'm still going to see a TMJ
specialist, to get a mouth splint made,
because I still need something to manage
my clenching at night.
Thanks so much for leave me a message, and
you are right Catswold and Dyan are
fantastic, its so good to speak to others
who know exactly where you are coming
from. I am so glad to have found this
forum and to have got the information and
help from those two ladies, I am so very
appreciative.
I hope you are doing okay and are coping
okay with it all.
