Does Depo-Provera provide immediate contraception? Posted: 04-22-07 04:00am
If I was on the birth control pill and
went straight on to the deprovera shot,
will I have any lapse in birth control
protection? Does the shot take effect
right away?

Depo-Provera can require up to fourteen
days for the contraception to take effect.
This means that a pregnancy can occur
within fourteen days of the first Depo
injection.
However, this type of birth control can
take as little as seven days to take
effect if given after the first four days
of the period cycle. Additionally, Depo
can be effective immediately if given
during the first four days of the
menstrual cycle.
