Green Tea And Coffee, And Other Types of Food
Posted: 04-24-07 09:57am

Hi!

I read at some websites that drinking coffee and/green tea in the long run will help lower blood pressure. Is this true?

And we all know that the culinary options of people with high blood pressure is somewhat limited. What types of delicious food would you recommend?

Thanks!

Not sure about coffee or green tea if it is caffinated.. Maybe decafe.

First salt reduction..

Good things are garlic, apples (because of the Pectin) bananas (because of the potassium) . The list goes no and on with fruits and Veggies.

Green Tea

I'm not sure about coffee though recent studies seem to indicate it does no harm. However, I use green tea as a diuretic and it helps me lose weight and keep the BP down. I use the brand that Chan endorses as it is very strong and effective.

Also, someone mentioned potassium. While I doubt bananas do any harm, if you take certain High bp meds such as Cozaar, they tell you to limit or not take salt substitute with potassium in it. I guess since Cozaar is a potassium based drug you can get too much.

So these are issues you need to discuss with your doctor.

Here's what I read regarding caffiene. "It's recommended to limit consumption to one to two beverages a day. Once you get beyond this amount, adverse side effects are more frequent. Green tea contains less caffeine than coffee but it is still considered a caffeine containing beverage." (as quoted by Dr Rowena)
I've just got a good cookbook with some great recipies in it by the Mayo Clinic. ALSO, my dad SWEARS by garlic & apple cidar! Along with exercise and a medical device called the resperate, i think you're set on nature's path!

I'd say you should also put some personal judgement into this.
I mean, you will probably feel if coffees really lower your blood
pressure or rather do the opposite.

For me, it does the opposite and I get nervous and anxious.
Well I used to, I don't drink coffee anymore...
