i just started taking loestrin 24 on
sunday, and i've taken it everyday very
close to the same time (a few minutes
early or right on).
my first question is, how far off on time
can you be when taking your pill that day?
i take it at 6, so say i take it 20
minutes late, will that affect it?
and second question, how long do you need
to wait until you start having sex without
the condom? i read on the instructions to
wait a week, but i've heard to wait until
you finish the first pack of pills as
well. just curious to see what other
people had to say :]

I was always told to take it within an
hour. So if you usually take it at 6,
then anytime between 5-7 is fine.
Most doctors tell you that after 7 days of
taking the pill correctly, you are
protected. I waited until I was through
the first pack though, just to be sure.
These are two topics where there is a lot
of opinions; so you will probably get
several different answers. I would just
go with what your doctor told you.

Being 20 minutes late is just fine. I
believe it is not technically even
considered a late pill until you are six
hours late. Keep taking it like you have
been.
You need to use a backup method of birth
control for at least the first week.

When I first started the pill they told me
to use a backup method(condom) for the
first two weeks. Loestrin 24 could be
different then other pills. I wouldn't
worry about being a "few" minutes off of
the same time everyday.

20 minutes is fine, no real worries there.
Of course, as close as possible is the
best bet, I personally set my cell phone
alarm so that no matter where I am I will
have that reminder to take my pill. I
have seen several sources in my own
research that said that a lapse of only 12
hours after you should have taken your
pill can stimulate withdrawl bleeding or
even ovulation in some women who may not
be so vigilant about taking their pills in
a timely fashion. And this risk is the
same month to month, so just being good
and taking your pills perfectly for 1
month doesn't save you for the future. As
far as being able to have sex without a
condom, if you started the day of your
period the drug company says you are
instantly protected; if you do a sunday
start then 7 days is the key, but I
personally went with a good month just to
make sure.

Hehe,
I do the same thing. I set my cell phone
alarm to go off at the same time every
night. Most of the time if it hadnt of
gone off I would have forgotten til I was
laying in bed.
