Question About Pregnancy Percentages.
Posted: 04-25-07 17:02pm

You know how the pill is supposed to be 99.8% effective? (or whatever the exact figure is) Do they account for the guy ejaculating inside of the woman in those figures. I was never quite sure.

So if he pulls out AND I'm on the pill, the chances of pregnancy are slim to none?

I was always curious about this but never asked.

Thank you!

Those stats do include internal ejaculation.

Pull-out method is not effective birth control when used by itself. Thus, when used in conjunction with the pills, I don't see it lowering your chances very much. Pre-cum has sperm in it.

Yes, I know pre-cum also contains sperm but I would have to think the pull out in conjunction with the pill has to be even more effective than simply the pill alone.

Perhaps I'm splitting hairs here. Just curious is all...

I agree with eiri. When they say the pill is about 99% effective, that's exactly what they mean. The pill is meant to be a primary method of birth control. That means when used alone, it is about 99% effective. That does include the man ejaculating in the woman and everything.

Also like eiri said, the pull out method is not a reliable method of birth control. If you want to use it to try to lower your chances even more, I would say you're probably wasting your time. If you want something as a backup method for the pill, try condoms or spermicide instead.

No, I wasn't trying to use it as a backup method per se, I just thought I was doing better by not having my b/f ejaculate inside me in addition to the pill. If I'm just wasting both our times though and not really decreasing the already slim chance of pregnancy, should I just let him go inside me all the time.

I guess I never thought of it on the other hand. Would I be safe to assume the majority of other girls on the pill don't use the pull-out method on top of it?

I certainly don't bother. My fiancee occasionally pulls out anyway, but that's because he knows I like watching him orgasm on me.

bcp's are the only method I use. Both me and my boyfriend understand that there is still a chance of becoming pregnant. If you want more protection, use another method, such as a condom in addition to the pill.

Right. I have never been on the pill, but I never bothered with the pull out method when I was on Depo. It does not really do anything. If either of you just likes pulling out (some people like to see the ejaculate actually coming out or having it on their body), then go for it. Otherwise, I certainly would not bother.
