Q: Carpal Tunnel Remedies??

I have carpal tunnel syndrome in my right hand. I'm wondering if anyone knows any good home remedies for this. I'm trying to drink a lot of water to keep from retaining too much but it still gets a little worse each week. I've heard those wrist braces don't always work but I will probably be getting one next time I visit my doctor. Anyone else have any suggestions?

Re:carpal Tunnel Remedies
There is surgery. I had to have me left wrist and thumb done a few years ago. Or just limit the repetitive use of the wrist. Or a brace. There aren't that many options.

carpal tunnel is very common in pregnancy. i had it pretty bad. the only thing my doctor recommended was a wrist brace to wear to bed but i already slept poorly so i didn't even try it.

i'm sure there are some exercises you could try.

it'll go away soon after your baby is born. it's just another lovely pregnancy side effect!

I don't know the answer to your question, but I wanted to ask something related.. Bridget said it goes away after pregnancy...but can it develop soon after you give birth? I think that might be what I've got because my right hand kills me but my symptoms didn't develop until after bray was born

i don't know, jennie. i thought it developed during pregnancy because of retaining fluid and it pinches something in your wrist. maybe you just happened to develop it the regular way (whatever that may be, lol)?

I've heard of it staying after the baby is born in some cases and I know it often comes toward the end of pregnancy. Not sure about after but I know sometimes a big change in hormones can trigger it.

Luckily, mines mostly just numbness and a little bit of burning and cold spots. I just thought someone out there might have a remedy I hadn't read about yet. I find ice feels good on it sometimes.

Maybe I developed it during pregnancy but I had so many other things going on that I just noticed the symptoms after he was born. I don't know, I just try to stretch my hands and also get a hand massage from my boyfriend Smile

Tendinitis is quite common for women to get after the baby is born. It is caused from carrying the baby around all the time.

Carpal tunnel is common during pregnancy. I think the only 'cure' is delivering the baby. Talk to your doctor at your next appointment. There are braces you can wear on your wrist. I don't know if they help though.

Good luck!

I am sorry you are having trouble with this. I was trying to finish knitting a baby blanket with my second child while I was pregnant, and it got so bad I couldn't feel anything anymore. Most of the time carpal tunnel will go away once your swelling dissipates. The splints can help with the symptoms, but are cumbersome and a pain in the butt. I had a steroid injection in both of my wrists near the end, which really helped. There is a slight risk for permanent damage if the splints are not worn. One way to tell if you are causing damage is to look at your hand and connect your thumb and pinky finger. Look at the meaty part of you thum joint where it connects to your hand (the thenar eminance). If you can see a divot in the tissue there, that is a sign that you have wasting of the tissue due to denervation (lack of nervous stimulation and blood flow). A family doctor may be able to perform this injection for you. Orthopaedic physicians do this as well. Good luck, I hope you get to your due date soon so this will clear up.

Regards

i dont know much about tendinitus during pregnancy, but i do know a little bit about tendinitis in general as i have it in my shoulder pretty bad and my mum has it in her wrists and a few other places, my brother also has it in his wrists lol

its caused by repetitive motions and/or repeat injuries that involve over stretching or pulling tendons

the braces help a lot because they provide the support your tendons cant give anymore

also cortisone injections (the steroriod shot sillyakchick was talking about im assuming) is also really really helpful, it works near immediatly and it works really well

a short explination for tendonitis is (this is what i tell most people who ask about it) its like artheritis only in the tendons, its when the tendons start to break down...its very painful and irreversable (i guess exept in pregnancy) but there are ways to manage it

i hope you can make a little sence out of that and you can find something that makes you feel better

I had Carpel Tunnel during my entire pregnancy. In the end I couldn't hold the phone to my ear without excruciating pain. Driving was awful and at night it was so much worse. I had my son over 5 weeks ago and I'm getting some relief, but I'm not 100% back to where I was by any means. Now it feels more like stiff joints.

I had my .OB refer me to a .D.O (physical therapist) and she does massages in my armpits, which oddly enough is where Carpel Tunnel stems from. It helps for a couple of weeks. She also adjusted my back and hips, which got all out of whack from being pregancy. I still go.

The braces help some, as they force you to keep your wrists straight, but I hated them and I'd take them off in my sleep.

*Edited to say* My carpel tunnel got a lot worse for about 72 hours after I had my son. Once I started to sweat and urinate the excess fluids is when it started to get better.

Good luck!!!
