my daughter is 19 weeks pregnant. when she was 16 weeks preg a friend at a hospital did her a favor and gave her a sono because she couldn't wait 4 more weeks to find out what she was having. They told her it was a girl and gave her pics. on one of the pics there is three little stripes and they told her that makes it a girl. THEN she started spotting on the 17th week and it scared her because she lost her fist baby at 5 months, so she went to the nearest hospital and they did a sono and said the baby is doing good and that it's a girl. she didn't get pics so i didn't see those. then she went on the 19th week to her reg doctors appt. and they did a sono and said IT'S A BOY! they put it on dvd for her and the baby had what kind of looked like a penis but no three stripes. the dr. said he has never been wrong. NOW with my daughters first preg we looked at all kinds of books and saw that baby's at around 6 to 10 or so weeks boy or girl they both have what looks like a penis and as they develope the boy's stays and the girl's goes in. if it was to early wouldn't the first 2 sonos of come closer to saying it's a boy than its a girl? NOW she had 3 sonos if there were twins wouldn't they have already seen two by now at 19 weeks?

While it is possible to not get the gender correct on a sonogram. It is impossible to miss a second baby. Especially with her having repeated sonograms done. While I can't tell you one way or the other if it is a boy or a girl. I can tell you that it is not twins.

They would have seen twins if it were twins.

Sonograms are not always accurate in reading the sex.

Congrats on your grandson.

you can not see a baby's external genitalia at 10 weeks.
the baby is simply not far enough developed.

The "groove" that may be visible at this time is the urogenital groove (what will become the urethra).

this is why some sonographers will not tell the parents the sex because they can never be 100%
