Hello, I am a student at Countryside High School and I have a report on Genetic Alteration. The directions of the essay are as followed: Write a persuasive essay on Genetic Alteration and choosing the sex of your child and present a speech in front of the class. The speech should only be a few minutes long but I have to have resources that have experience. What better place then the hospital =). I have a few questions on this subject and please give any useful information on the topic. Anything will help me and I greatly appreciate your help. Thank you very much

The genetic alteration in which I am referring to is actively taking part in choosing the characteristics of your child before birth. To persuade my audience not to take part in actively choosing their children’s sex/color/eye color/ and or any other characteristics of that said child - This is my Topic. I am writing against this topic and believe this to be wrong but I ask help.

Is altering the characteristics of your future child possible and if so how does this take place?

How is choosing the sex of your child possible?

Do you believe choosing the sex of your child to be right or wrong and why.

In the process of choosing a sex, does a child life get taken?

Will this be possible in the United States in the near future?

If legalized, how will this effect our country and economy. How will this also affect other countries, such as India and China, where having a boy is recommended and favored.

Thank you so much for all your help. Please feel free to add any information that will better help my understanding of this new technology. Email would be the best possible communication but anything will do.

Thank you again,

I believe that this in in the 'testing stage'. Personally it's not something i would have done because it's not how ababy is supposed to be made, it's just not natural. The only way this can be as far as i know is by altering genes in a fertilised egg before placing it in the woman's body through ivf. And as for your question of does a child's life get taken, then yes it is possible because through ivf, many fertilised eggs are lost everyday either through not latching onto the uterus lining properly or by being destroyed because they are not needed. i hope this helped you in some way. Just to add that i'm in the uk so some of the info might not be relivant to the us
