Hi, i'm trying to find some info on a
problem my mom is having. She has been to
doctors and they dont ever have an answer
for her. Im very worried about her! She
has a big dent top of her head near her
hair line. It feels like her skull is
separating and making a soft spot. She's
had it for about 6 months I think and it
seems to be getting worse. About last
week she told me she is experiencing
nausiea and sinus pain. I dont know what
to think and I need some answers. Shes 57
years old and has never had any skull
trauma. Can someone please help my mom??

Skull Dent Diagnosis? Posted: 06-24-05 14:29pm
My cousin asked me to find out if anyone
has had any luck in finding out anything
about this matter of a skull dent. I
called the number in the area code 801
post but have not had a response yet. She
asked me to check for her because she is
very nervous and wants me to filter the
information for her in case it is
something serious.
Her dent is about 2 inches long and
extends directly back from the middle of
her hairline. She has had negative cat
scan and xrays so far.
Additionally there has been a symptom of
an infrequent but uncomfortable small
electric shock like or tingling feeling in
the area.
If anyone has any information on this
please contact me.
looking for information on this as well.
I'm 32 years old, have a shaved head, and
have noticed a dent line on the top of my
head, and recently another has formed just
above it. I do not suffer from any
headaches, but the electric shock feeling
as descibed is familiar.
Thanks,
dave.

Has anyone who's posted here gotten a
diagnose as to what this dent might be?
Mine is exactly the same as moshe
described her cousin has. I also suffer
from panic disorder and dizziness. I
first discovered this dent a couple of
years ago.
Hi has anyone found out what this could
be. I have one top of my head about 3
inches long and a 1/2 wide but getting
bigger. I have also noticed another one
starting. I have been getting bad
headaches, some dizziness. I thought I
was the only one with this problem, now I
see I am not. Hope someone can figure
this out

Hello all, I have had this mysterious
skull dent for 16 years. It fluctuates
on occasion, sometime throughout a day.
I understand that this sounds insane; and
I am not insane. I have been to several
doctors and they look at me like deer in
headlights. There is no medical
diagnosis. My "dent" is in the middle of
my skull, 1-2 in. Long, with the sides
rising and lowering; it is about where my
soft spot would have been as a baby. One
doctor asked if it could be there from
birth - no!
Just recently, I believe I have discovered
the cause, which is directly related to
nutrition. I found that I have a gluten
intolerance, which led to a complete diet
change. Over the last month, I have been
absorbing the nutrition from food, which
is leading to my dent closing up - it is
very painful because it is moving so fast.
I can't believe I found this site. My mom
is 49yrs old and just overnight one week
ago she felt a sharp pain on the top of
her head and felt a dent. She was not born
with a dent. She does not have any other
alarming symptoms except this dent. She
told me that the dent actually changes
during the day. In the morning it is not
as noticeable then becomes more sunken in
through out the day. What is going on! She
is very worried including me.

I am so happy to find this website and to
see that I am not the only one with this
problem. Suddenly,out of nowhere,3 days
ago a dent in the back of my head towards
the right side appeared. It is about the
size of a quarter and feels tingly and
uncomfortable. I have been having
headaches in the back of my head for a few
weeks now. I went to the emergency room a
few nights ago after I noticed the dent
and was worried because it hurt and I had
a headache. They treated me like I was
nuts but did a catscan that came back
normal. They suggested that it has always
been there but I have never noticed it.
There is no way I wouldn't have noticed a
dent in my head that hurts.
I am desperately seeking info on this. Has
anyone figured out what this could be?
Thanks!

Thanks Maria, It is helps to know that
your mom has had a lot of testing and that
they didn't find anything wrong. If she
finds out any answers from her doctor I
would love to know what they said.

Okay, I found out what mine was. In May my
hairdresser found a small spot of alopecia
in the back of my head. I went to a
dermatologist who said they could stop the
hair loss by giving me a shot of a steroid
in that spot. It is a long lasting steroid
so it sometimes takes awhile to see the
reactions you can have from it. Anyway,
the steroid caused muscle atrophy which
caused my muscle to cave in in that spot.
It can take months for it to go away. I
noticed the dent in August and it is now
much smaller and not sensitive anymore but
still there.
Hope this helps.

I'm 29 yrs old and have had this dent for
years in my soft spot of my skull, years
ago a use to get really bad headaches
which could of been migraines and my
parents took me to the Dr. because they
worried but they never found anything, as
time went on the headaches got better, i
get headaches and migraines but there not
a problem, it doesn't impair me to the
point that i can't work or that I've had
to see a Dr., i went on this web site
because since i was never diagnosed i
think about once a while if it's something
i should worry about that might effect me
in the future, as far as i could remember
i possibly had this since back as i was in
junior high. It doesn't bother me but
sometimes it can be embarrassing when
someone is doing my hair if they notice it
because I've never known of anyone else
having this until now.

I noticed that there was a definite
indentation as if the two hemispheres of
the brain had a slight indentation from
top of head to about 3-4 inches down.
Right in the middle.
It feels weird. It doesn't hurt or
anything, but it was never there before
and it just bothers that it is a change.
Is it part of the aging process? I am 58.
My doc felt it and said it was nothing.
However, I believe the length of it has
grown.
Anyone else have this kind of symptom?

I too have dents in my skull. Suddenly
they appeared and overnight they seem to
be less pronounced but as the day wears on
they get deeper. I do have a lot of
headaches but they are controlled with
aspirin or tylenol. What causes this?

I have no idea what causes this as I have
only noticed in the last few months. It
is not so much a dent as a depression. It
is not terrible - meaning it is not
noticeable (I have short hair, but it
covers the area well). It just bothers me
and I seem to keep touching it and feeling
it. My fear is that it is a sign of
Alzheimers. But, what do I know?
I wonder how it would look if I were bald?
Oh well, I hope to never find out (I mean
about the bald part as I am a woman).
It bothers me like when you lose a tooth
and your tongue keeps going to the space
where the tooth used to be.

I am 26yrs old and for abouth the last
year have had this same issue. It started
as just a small, sharp pain very rarely
throughout the day. I first thought I had
maybe a pimple or ingrown hair so I used a
handheld mirror to check the top of my
head where the pain was coming from. What
I saw was a small red patch, however the
red patch was about 1/2 inch away from
where the pain was coming from.
Just about a month ago I was washing my
hair and just about shot through the roof
when I went over the area because it was
so sharp and tremendous pain. I went to a
dermatologist, she said nothing was
there(the red patch had gone away). She
said it might have just been a clogged oil
gland where the red patch was and she
didn't see anything where the pain was
coming from. Now for the past couple
weeks, the pain is getting to be constant
and much more intense, I almost feel like
the surronding area of my scalp is numb
and all I can feel is that sharp, pain
which is now an area about three times the
size of what it was initially. I am really
starting to get nervous and am going to
have to schedule a DR. appointment because
I am having ice pick headaches, but only
on the left side of my head, which is the
same side the pain is on. The dent is
becoming more prominent. This past week now
I have started having pain and twitching
in my left eye and as crazy as this may
sound, when I put even a small amount of
pressure on the area, I get a sharp pain
inside my left inner ear. This has got to
be nerve related.
I have read each of the posts ahead of me
and I am sure I will get the same puzzled
looks from the dr. when I try to explain
this. Just wondering, if anyone else
experiencing this is on any type of
prescription medication? I take 2 and was
maybe wondering if that had anything to do
with it!? I will post after I see a dr. to
notify all of you what they say!

I am 36 yrs old and have been suffering
with severe cronic headaches since Aug 06.
I woke up one morning and there it was.
The first lasted until around March of 07,
when I finally saw "the love of my life" a
pain specialist, who started giving me
steroid shots in the back of my head and
my forehead. They took a couple times to
start working, but they did start helping
along with massive pain pills. Anyway,
probably about 3 months ago I noticed a
large dent in the back of my head also
about 2 x 1 1/2 inches long and fairly
deep on my right side. Then slowly
realized a smaller one on my left side,
which is not quite as big, but is painful
to the touch. Not to mention I've also
noticed that my "original" soft spots are
also more indented too! I spoke to my Dr.
about this and after examining them, he
believes them to be inflammation points
within the muscles in my head. Since it is
just the muscles that are inflammed it
causes a ridge around the other areas (if
that makes sense?).
My neurologist just had an MRI and a
C-Spine done of me tonight to hopefully
give my more answers and confirm this
theory of my other Dr's. It could make
some sense though, I notice if I can put
pressure on it and massage it for a little
while it seems to get smaller. Maybe try
a good massage therapist. I have one who
is trained and has been doing it for years
and she works out of her home. I haven't
gone to her since this has happened, but I
plan to make an appointment.
I will get back to you all and let you
know what all my results are. I feel for
everyone going through this. I understand
how tough it is when people don't believe
you. I'm now on my 2nd neurologist and 2nd
general practictioner. Hopefully, I've
finally got it right. Don't give up!
