Missed second mentrsual cycle off Nuvaring : Hormonal issue? Posted: 05-07-07 01:21am
My period is missing for a second cycle
now. I was on NuvaRing for over a year. I
stopped it in January and and had one full
period after that. My last cycle started
on March 4 and seemed normal. i have not
had any menstruation since. I took about 8
pregnancy tests and confirmed with my PCP
that I am not pregnant (TSH=3.93; HCG
<2).
I am assuming that this is hormonal issue.
I noticed in February that the hair over
my upper lip darkened and thickened. (also
I found about 12 white hairs in my hair).
My PCP dismissed me by saying that it must
be due to me gaining a few extra pounds,
but I do not think this is entirelly
true.
What can be the cause of the issue? What
should I be looking out for? Who would be
the best type of doctor for me to speak
to: Endocrynolorist, Gynecologist or
Reproductive Endocrynologist? I want to
get pregnant now - is it possible? If
possible, would I be putting myself or the
baby in risk?
Thanks you!

Lack of menstruation is an expected,
temporary side effect experienced by women
who stop taking hormonal contraception.
The missed period(s) are often due to the
temporal disturbance in the axis
hypothalamus-pituitary gland-ovaries. A
new cycle of ovulation and regular
menstruation should be established
spontaneously after a few months. It
doesn’t seem that you are pregnant
because all pregnancy tests were negative.
You can wait for a few months and if you
still don’t get you period, you can then
consult a gynecologist.
