Giving Her Real Fruit??
Posted: 02-22-04 22:19pm

Hey guys I have another really dumb question. Okay jayden is 6 months old. Well instead of buying all the small fruit jars of baby food. Is it okay if I mash up bananas, peaches, and pears myself? She seems to loooove it that way. And its so much cheaper. The other question is..How abut regular applesauce?? I mean is there too many additives or what? I can get unsweetened 100% applesauce. What do you think?? I am just not sure if regular fruit in the can like peaches and pairs will contain too much sugar for her?

The mashed fruit that u give them is way better and as far as I know its fine to give it to them. I was watching a show just this morning that said at about 6 months they should be starting to explore the world of food, and my cousin and a heap of my friends all give their kids mashed fruit for morning t and stuff like that.

Thats awesome. I mean yes we can afford to keep buying the small jars, but it seems pointless to me when I can grind up a whole can of peaches which fills about 6 small baby food jars. That is what I do...I save the baby food jars. And now when I grind up some fruit I put them in the jars. Works out wondeful. And do you think I should give her regular applesauce or should it be unsweetened?

Sara, sean is 10 months old and you know what baby's love!! Those dole fruit cups. With the fruit surrounded by gel!! They love it. I think it is ok if you do the fruit, I do. I hate buying the jar stuff plus he doesnt like it as much. How did the real cup thing work out for you? I would try the regular applesause, but only a little bit to see how her bowels do!! Keep me posted!!

Real fruit is fine. My friends mom only used real fruit. She never once gave her anything from the jar. All she did was boil everything she wanted, fruits or veggies and once they were soft, she mashed them and saved the extras. And she said it was healthier for the baby. I think ill take the lazy way and just buy it but she should be fine. Just start the servings out small.
