Wedding Favors!
Posted: 05-10-07 08:22am

i know there's been a lot of wedding related threads lately, so i apologize for one more. i can't help it, i'm excited!

for the married girls, did you have favors at your reception and, if so, what were they?

i was torn trying to come up with something fairly unique and not something they'd just toss in a drawer when they get home and i came up with...

those awesome caramel and chocolate covered apples from rocky mountain chocolate factory!

http://www. rmcf.com/cp/shop/apples_fudge/apples.asp?< /a>

pretty much everyone will be coming in from out of town so this will be a nice treat to bring back to the hotel with them. it's also right around my budget of $4 per person.

i think i'm set on that but i still want to know what others did!

i think that is a really good idea! and i think most people like those too.
we made cd's with a variety of love songs on it, one per couple or if they were alone they got one of course! we attached the place cards to them so the guests knew to take them. it went over ok, i am sure some people threw them out! that is why the treat is a good idea because even if they don't want it maybe there kids would at home.

We had lame favors at my wedding. My Dh is obssessed with jelly belly's so we had little blue and silver sacks and added allot of jelly belly's too them. The funny thing isI had decided to not do favors but my mom decided she wanted them at the last minute. So the night before my wedding me and all my bridesmaids watched "the Perfect Man" and stuffed those little annoying baggies.

I think some people are totally doing away with favors. Especially if there is an open bar at their reception.

My favorite favor that I gave out were magnets.

We bought blank white magnets from any supply store. (They're made for businesses and normally were you buy the blank business cards to print out your self.) We picked out our favorite picture of us. We printed them out on paper and adhered it to the front of the magnet. (Get the magnet you peel off a cover and their sticky) It had out wedding date under it and everyone got one. Out faces are on fridges all across .Lockhart. We even walked into our usual convenience store and we were right there on the register. Embarassed One had gotten into his hands somewhere along the line.

Just an Idea.

We got some tea light candles and votives for them to go into. Then made up labels to put around the votives that said 'thanks for sharing our special day' and then had our names and wedding date on them.

We put some wildflower seeds in a bag and wrote a cute poem and thanking everyone for sharing our special day. It had the date and our names on it as well.
They were extremely inexpensive and everyone seemed to like them.

Here's a picture - that's not our favors, but it gives you an idea of what the bags looked like.

those are all very cute ideas!

i've heard a lot of people are doing away with favors and just putting a card at each seat that says "a donation has been made in your name to ______". that's a great idea too.

my mom said "a lot of people give jordan's almonds because almonds symbolize fertility... but i think you've passed that..."

I lived with my husband 2 years before we got married and my grandma was the only person who said anything about my wearing white. Everyone else said you can wear white if you want to!

I think that old tradition is out the window. Both my sister and I wore white on our wedding day and we both lived with our husbands before. Also, my sil did the same thing. My other sister got married, then divorsed, and got married again and she wore an off white dress. She thought she shouldn't wear white for her second wedding.

Another good idea for favors would be getting a small 2x3 frame and putting a picture of you two in it for everyone. That way everyone would have a cute picture of the two of you to have at their house. I love pictures and wanted to do this, but couldn't afford it... We had almost 150 at our wedding. If you look on ebay or at the dollar store they are about $0.75-1.00 each.

These are all really great ideas on the favors. I love the wildflower seed one. I think the chocolate covered apple idea is very original. The last wedding I attended they had little votives with candles and the bride and groom's name with the wedding date. It was nice. I still have it.

On a different note, I worked at a wedding that had 2 disposable cameras on every table (round ones that seated Cool. Guests took pictures of the bride, groom, wedding party, and other guests and left their used cameras in a basket when they left. I'm sure there were some awesome pictures. More than a photographer could get.

We did this too. We had 6 cameras throughout the reception area for people to take pictures with. 3 of our cameras ended up missing. We only got 1 camera back that was full of pictures, the other 2 only had a couple of pictures taken on them. If you go with this idea, put a sticker on the camera that says return to bride and groom or something to that effect. I was quite upset that people would run off with them.

I had a disposable at every table as well. All I can say is that I thought it would be a good idea!!! Wink
Our friends table decided they needed to be the funny guys and they took stupid pictures of everyone with silly faces. then at other tables, the kids got ahold of the cameras and needless to say, I got some nice pictures of peoples feet, the backs of heads, the silverware!! Priceless I tell you!
I did get a few good ones, but not many. Some people didn't finish the camera and we took the remaining ones on our honeymoon.

We had little silver bells at each place setting. Every time someone rang a bell, .aaron and I would have to kiss. It actually got annoying after a while, because people would try to be cute and ring it while we were trying to eat, while I was talking with someone, etc. We also had little bottles of bubbles with our names on them. We were supposed to do that instead of throwing rice, but the reception hall is attached to the church so we never had a huge entrace/exit thing. So they were never really used except to goof off.

The party favors we had for our 1st wedding were handmade napkin holders and tortilla baskets (also handmade, and I doubt your families have any use for the second favor....but that's just what we had) And I don't know how/where they got those things, as all those were done before we got there. And for our second go around (in the states for family that couldn't attend the other one) we made dozens upon dozens of roll out sugar cookies and decorated them according to our colors, and it was all wedding themed. And we also did the little bubbles things. ANd I also wore a white dress even tho I lived with my husband 2 years before I got married.

We had square, glass, coasteres frosted with the .l & .o on top and the .v. & .e on the bottom!!

They're amazing!!! I'll have to take pics!!

Then we had "save the date" maganets made!! With a sweet little "i'm marrying my friend" enscription with the date on it!!!

As for the dress, you can call me old fashioned. I didn't want white because I'm not "pure"...but I wouldn't think down upon someone who wants white.

I'm going to be very un-traditional and wear red on my wedding day Laughing I love your idea as a favor. I reall ylike what my sister's doing for hers. Her theme colours are ivory and gold so shes getting little ivory candles with their names and the date of their wedding on them in little gold bags with kinda pearl stickbits coming out of the top of the bag. As you can tell describing things is not my strong point!
