Gromits Tonsils And Adenoids Surgery In 14 Month Old Baby Posted: 05-10-07 16:02pm
Our 14 month old has had either throat or
ear infections on or off for months. In
between picking he has had croup and
vomiting and diarea bug for which he was
hospitalized for three days. He has been
brought to five different doctors as we
were concerned at the amount of
antibiotics he was on. We were told the
antibiotics wouldn't do him any harm. We
think it does as he could become immune to
them. We brought him to an ear nose &
throat specialists despite being told by
our doctor that he is to young to do
anything. The ear nose and throat
consultant / specialists says he has glue
ear and wants to insert gromits in one
ear, also to take out his tonsils and
possibly his adenoids.
We are a little shocked because nobody
mentioned glue ear before the
specialists/consultant mentioned it. Is he
to young for this surgery? Why didn't
the doctors notice glue ear before? How
successful are gromits?
I am not sure if that is to young or not,
but from my own experience as a child I
had wished they would have done something
much earlier with my tonsils and adnoids.
My tonsils where causing major problems
with me always have some sort of infection
and my tonsils were so big that they
pulled on my ear drums causing me to lose
my hearing. I was fitted for hearing aids
and then when I was in grade 3 they
removed my tonsils and adnoids and I have
not had an infection in my ears or throat
since and my hearing came back except from
all the tissue build up from the
infections. So I would say that the
earlier you could catch the problem the
better. You would have to ask for a second
opinion from a doctor if this was to
young. Best of luck and keep me posted.

My sons doctor kept telling me that he was
to young to have his tonsils and adnoids
out. His doctor retired and I had to find
a new peiatrician. My son was getting
cronic sinus infections and ear
infections. He snored loudly, had rank
breath and would gag on his mucous. On his
first visit to the new doc. (3 years old)
she immediatly sent him to be checked by
an ENT one week later he went in for the
surgery. After the surgery the doctor had
said she was thankful we had decided to go
this route because they were so infected
they had become gaingreen (sp?) Let me
tell you it was the best decision I had
made he has been so much healthier since
the surgery. As for gromits I have never
heard of those. Check around and make sure
that he is not to young for the surgery
and if your child is not I would go for it
get them out now. the younger the better
they bounce back easier. Good luck
