Silly?

Did anyone purchase items for a baby prior
to being pregnant? I pretty much have
everything we need from changetable, to
car seat still in boxes ready for when we
are pregnant. We have been trying for a
couple of months.
Is this silly? Has anyone else done this?

it does sound a little odd, but i guess if
youve been ttc then its not that weird
i use to do that, sorta, but it was
because i watched a lot of little kids, so
it wasnt purposly to have stuff for a
baby, but i had to leave it all when i
moved here bleh, wouldve been nice though,
i had some really cool baby stuff

I'd like to say that no it's not silly.
When you think about how much everything
costs, it's really smart to plan ahead and
have everything ready. My mom and dad
bought stuff for a year before they got
pregnant. They were trying but knew that
it would be expensive and wanted to be
ready for their future little one. My
husband and I are doing exactly the same
thing. We did get pregnant once but
unfortunately lost it early on.

I've heard of women buying their wedding
dress long before they even meet the guy
they're gonna marry. I guess if you're
determined it's gonna happen then you
might as well be prepared for it! I wish
I had all the stuff we need, we're not
even close and I'm almost 30 weeks.

So glad to hear other's have done this or
wish they did. I think we will be forever
thankful once we conceive, we will have
almost nothing to purchase, just set up.

I have a friend that has gone to the
extreme. You don't sound like you have.
Even before I was pregnant with my first
(4 years ago), she had her nursery all
ready for a baby. She has been TTC for
over 7 years. When she knew that me and
another one of her friends were having
babies, she did even more to the nursery.
When my baby was born, her nursery was a
lot more decorated than ours...it was a
little freaky to say the least. I never
left her alone with my child due to other
little things that made me feel uneasy. I
personally think she is making it more
difficult on herself seeing a lot of baby
stuff when she may not be able to have
kids.
I do think it's a little strange as well
but at least you haven't gone to the
extreme like my friend. If you are doing
it slowly, you can probably save same
money. I personally would never recommend
it for some items. A few months after my
son was born, we noticed that new and
improved items came out that we wish we
had instead. This could happen if it takes
you a few years to conceive. I also feel
the fun part about being pregnant is
shopping for baby.
Good luck with your TTC!!

I would find it hard to have all of that
stuff around me when I was ttc. It took me
10 months and towards the end of those
months if I saw a baby commercial I would
start bawling because I wanted a baby. I
think that it would be a bad reminder to
me but if you want to do it, more power to
you.

Products change and get better in no time.
I bought Ava's travel system 2 months
before she was born and a month after she
was born I saw one I liked better. Just
about every month or so they come out with
a new and better product. I wouldn't buy
everything just yet. I made a list
yesterday of things I want for the next
baby that they didn't have for Ava and
she's only 6 months old.

Ya I havnt gone to any extremes yet. They
are all in boxes with the receipts taped
on just in case I see something better.
Nothing will be built until I know I am
preggers and well into it.
Everything that I have bought to date I
hve done LOTS of research on, I have
looked at all the products available, and
if it has everything I want I dont reall
feel like I will need a newer one. But I
definately hear what you guys are saying.
There are always bigger and better things
out there.
I know which stroller and which carseat I
am going to get, and I get one 'big' item
a month. SO I am definately doing it super
slow.
We dont have a lot of friends and family
who will help us out, so I just figured
this would be the best way for us. When I
see stuff on sale, I scoop it up.

get teary eyed when i see friend with the
NB or a commercial with a baby in it.
If I dont get pg this time around, I think
I will return the stuff...

I would do what feels comfortable to you.
You know yourself the best. This is only
your second month trying, right? You
really haven't been trying for that long.
It may take you a while or perhaps this
month will be your luckily month. When you
say "If you don't get pg this time around,
you think you will return the stuff.."
what do you mean? Do you mean this month?
I would think returning all the stuff
after you have the stuff and only trying
for a short time would also be very
emotional as well. This is just my
opinion. Good luck
I hope to hear from you soon.
