Dog And the In Laws
Posted: 05-14-07 07:43am

Ok we have a small Black lab mix (65lbs or so) and when we moved we had to put her on my In Laws farm. Well now she has been there for two years and we don't want to remove her from that freedom to bring her to the city and crate her all day. But Mark wants a Dog and I think it would really help him (you know like when he is sore in the morning and needs to move and loosen up the dog would force him too) so we would have to get a diffrent one. A smaller one that we could keep up with but thats not fair to the In Laws and they have said we should bring our Lab home. I don't know what to do. I completly understand their point and not getting a Dog when we already have one, but I think it would really help .Mark and .He is my top priority. What do I do?

Do you live in an apartment? I don't think big dogs do well in small appts. They need room to run around.

No we have a house but its in town and she would have to be kenneled all day after living on the farm for 2 years.

It's definitely not fair to her.

I hate when dogs are put in the kennel. Leave her on the farm.

Honestly I can see both povs here. Your relatives want you to get your dog but it would be unfair to the dog to take her back and kennel her after all that freedom. Can you find a permanent home to place her in? Then you could solve both problems. The dog has a comfy new home and you can get a smaller dog. Do your relatives not like dogs? I can't imagine someone having a dog for two years and wanting to give it back...

"can I ask why she would be crated all day?"

Melissa~ She has been on the farm so much we cant leave her running around the house and we can't leave her out side all the time because up here we have both extreams .Very .Hot and .Very .Cold.

My In laws like dogs they have one of there own but she is near the end of her life and when she passes away they were hoping to do some traveling. Thats where our Dog becomes a problem.

I understand their side completly I just don't know what to do about it maybe finding another home for her now would be a really good idea. humm how do we do that when we are 3 hours away that gives me something to think about.

are either of you home during the day? would she mes up the house with you gone?maybe you could take her and then when you get home let her stay outside for a while.I'm sure it gets hot where she's at and even if it doesn't she'll adapt to it,ya know? my dog was horrible in my apartment because she's almost 60lbs,but she is so much better acting in the house and we have a pretty big back yard for her to run in.

We wold be out from 6:50ish to 4:30 or 5:00 then she would be out and about and in our yard with us or running about the house. I just don't know what to do oh well if DH says he is fine with it why am I wasting my time worrying?? (because I love him and I want him happy but this is stressing me out!)
