A fast or rapid heartbeat occurs when the
heart beats faster than normal. A normal
heart rate is somewhere between 60-100
beats per minute. A heart rate greater
than 100 beats per minute is called
"tachycardia". People who can feel their
heartbeat flutter may be experiencing
palpitations. Palpitations can be due to
stress, anxiety, medications, ....or it
may be a sign of a more serious heart
condition. There are many other
causes of rapid heartbeat such as:l ung
infection (pneumonia), anemia, low blood
pressure, drinking alcohol or caffeine,
thyroid disorders, and heart disorders
including irregular heartbeats
(arrythmias). You may consult a specialist
for internal medicine for further
examinations, information, and possible
treatment.
