Hello. To really begin to ask this, I
have a friend of mine who's about my age,
late adolescence/early adult-hood. I want
to know if they have a problem or not.
Mental disorders run in their family and
their mother was bipolar. For a long
time my friend lived in thei delusional
made up world that just doesn't exhist,
thinking that she was a wolf. Then the
idea seemed to dissappear for a while, but
she's complained to me several times of
this feeling coming back to her and how
she can't get rid of it. Like fantasy
just pulls her in and she can't shake it
off. She tells me that she knows
(sometimes) that it isn't real, but she
just cant stop the thoughts. She also
sees things on occasion that arent there,
and she mostly realizes this, mainly
because they dissapear quickly, and no one
else sees them. Last year, she thought
they were spirits trying to talk to her.
She also speaks with one voice in her head
saying that they are her friend even
though she frequently argues with them.
During her "lucid" periods she admits to
having concern for being crazy, but her
family already thinks she is out for
attention, and no one believes her. She
can hide things really well when she wants
to. Please let me know what's wrong and
tell me how to help her.

i guess one can go on living with mental
stuff happening, but my concern that she
might drop out of school, lose her job or
boyfriend, become dysfunctional in the
worst case, things of that nature. before
it gets out of hand it is safest for her
to see a doctor and get some professional
advice. she doesn't need to tell her
family she's doing this, as it's clear
they don't really care. good luck!
