40 Days Since Period, Light Spotting And Drinking Alcohol Posted: 05-21-07 23:52pm
Hi,
My last period was April 13-17, 2007.
Usually I have around a 28 day cycle, give
or take a few days. I am also 21. For 3
1/2 days on May 13-16 I had light
spotting, not really enough to use a
tampon or a pad. Usually I have spotting
before my period but this time the
spotting started, was light and stopped
altogether. I also usually have moderate
to slightly severe cramping, backaches and
irritability, but none of this has
presented itself so far. I have a feeling
I may be pregnant seeing as how me and my
BF have unprotected sex and I am not on
birth control. And yes we would like to
have a baby. So no symptoms of a period
except for this very light spotting,
mostly brown, but very very little red on
one day, I noticed it once while wiping.
So, if I am pregnant, (I have a Dr.
appointment on Wednesday to see if I
really am or not) will the alcohol I drank
this past weekend have a very negative
effect on the baby? I mean do I have to
worry about any birth defects this early
on? I really didn't pay any attention to
if my period was late or not, I seen the
spotting and figured it was just the
beginning of my period. Also, if I am not
pregnant, are there any other things that
could cause this besides stress, because I
have had very minimal stress lately and no
real change in my lifestyle. If anyone
has experienced this could you give me
some insight, as well as insight into the
whole alcohol thing this early on.
Thanks.

honestly i went to a nascar race when i
was 4 weeks pregnant and didnt know it and
drank like a fish.. and no problems with
the baby.. when you are first pregnant
your body is pretty good about fighting
off things that could harm the baby.. As
long as your aware now and are careful im
sure youll be alright. I cant even tell
you how many times ive heard from moms
that they drank before they knew they were
pregnant and everything turned out okay.
I wouldnt worry about it just yet. good
luck!

"It's important for women who are thinking
about becoming pregnant to adopt healthy
behaviors before they get pregnant."
There is some information and a quote from
a website about FAS (fetal alcohol
syndrome).
There isn't any point in beating yourself
up for drinking when you don't even know
if you're pregnant yet. I doubt that one
episode of drinking has much of an effect
on the baby, but the fact is, no one knows
how much alcohol is safe.
I'm gonna preach a little bit here to no
one in particular...
For others who may be reading this and
thinking about getting pregnant or are not
taking precautions to avoid pregnancy
(which is essentially the same thing) get
educated about it now so you don't have to
have this worry later. I have seen the
effects of .f.a.s, .f.a.e, and fetal
alcohol spectrum disorder and they are so
damaging to the quality of life of the
child. Learning, behavoiral and emotional
problems are common effects and they
really hinder the success and happiness of
a lot of children. This problem is
growing despite the research and findings
on the effects of alcohol during
pregnancy. It is our responsibility as
mothers or potential mothers to get
educated and tell others about this issue
so we can all take steps to prevent it.

Whether or not it will harm your baby is
tough to say. Some women can drink all
throughout their pregnancy with no
problems. Other women don't drink much
and do have problems. Everyone is
different. However, drinking alcohol,
smoking, and doing drugs not only increase
the chances that you will have a baby with
health problems, they also increase the
chances that you will have a miscarriage.
When you are trying to get pregnant, you
do have a responsibility to always assume
you might be pregnant and to behave as
such. Also, keep in mind that women do
not make eggs all their life. We are born
with all of the eggs that we will ever
have. That means if you smoke, or do
drugs, or put any of other garbage into
your body, it can get into your eggs and
stay there. That is why older women have
babies with more problems; the longer you
live, the more garbage that gets into your
eggs. So you need to be healthy before
you even start trying to get pregnant, not
just after you get that positive pregnancy
test.
