Septoplasty Procedure Posted: 05-22-07 17:21pm
I have a deviated septum and plan on
getting a septoplasty this summer. My main
fear is will they insert a tube up my
nose, and if so, will I be put under
before they do this?? I know it sounds
ridiculous, but I've always had a fear of
having something stuck up my nose or down
my throat.

Yes, Sweetie, you will be sedated (put
slap to sleep so you will not know a tube
has been inserted anywhere!!!! If you
explain to the nurse or Dr before hand
that you are extremely nervous, they may
give you a little something to knock the
edge off before you go to the surgical
room. My brother just had this procedure
done. Once in surgical room, you will be
given something through your IV, and its
off to LALA LAND! When you wake up it will
be all over. You will be able to breath
through your nose a few months later a
heck of a lot better! Anymore questions?
Hope I've put your mind at ease!

thank you for your useful information, it
puts my mind at ease
one more question, how is the recovery
period? why will it take a few months for
me to notice the difference in breathing
through my nose? will it really take that
long for everything to heal? thanks!

It does take time for the body to heal,
and some people heal a lot quicker than
others. I can't tell you it will be 2
months or 4 months, as you might notice a
change within a few weeks. Close your eyes
and try to concentrate on what you are
feeling when you breath through your nose
at this moment. Do this seeral times a
day and tell yourself you are going to
remember how this feels, because once
surgery is over and you start to heal, you
can compare it to what you felt before.
You're gonna be fine champ! Hang in there!
