Hi I Really Need Some Help About Plan B Posted: 05-23-07 04:47am
Hi. Well let me start off by saying, just
to get it out of the way.
Im pro-choice. So lets not start any
debates on this now.
I just need some advice and a little
reassurance.
Basicly, my boyfriend and I, we've been
together for over a year now.
We normally use protection, But for the
first time in a year about 2 weeks ago the
condom broke.
I had gotten my last period on the 17th of
april,
got over it on the 21st. So I was
expecting it around the 18th of this month
with a few days of leighwaybefore or
after- because im kind of wierd like that.
But any way. I took Plan B within the
first 48 hours. I was expecting my period
2weeks after the incident. And it skipped.
however I wasnt to clear on the
description of plan B. It says it stops me
from ovulating, which means I clearly skip
my period right? How ever, it says that
you will get your next one
within a week or two of normal time. Does
that mean- I was supposed to get the one
in 2 weeks, or the one a month from now?
Either way im like 3-4 days late. My
boyfriend and I have both been tested, And
we are both clean. So Im not worried about
stds.
Nor am I worried about children, so much
as I already know I will not bring a child
into the world that I cant support, and
give the life I never had to. I want kids
one day, and want them to be able to go
to college, and graduate highschool. I
want my kids to live life without having
to fight all the time with family, and I
want them to be able to have nice things.
I dont want to protect them from the
world, but teach them to see it as
something beautiful that should be
cherished. You cant do that when you have
no job, and you just turned 18 ok. lol. Im
just not ready.
but back on topic. I understand Plan B is
not always 100% effective. I am also aware
that I had probably ovulated and there was
a possibility of me becomming pregnant. I
also know the time it takes the sperm to
get up the track, and the time pregnancy
normally takes.
I also have come to the understanding that
there is a possibility of it interefering
with existing sperm by contacting my
tubes, and also it may interfere with
Implantation of the zygote into the womb.
my biggest problem is the way they word
it.
I was supposed to miss my period right,
and now Im waiting a full 20 something
days until I get my "next" one?
Either way, Im going to take a pt In a few
days.
Just to make sure.
I know it sounds like a stupid question,
maybe even a little naive,
but Im just really worried, and I wanted
to make sure I had my facts right.
Either way, the pill made me experience
some side effects.
Dizzyness tiredness and cramping.
not good.
But I dealt with it and am feeling better
for the most part.
I just want to know (i know theres a
chance of me bieng pregnant no matter what
and im ok with that.)
I took the pill within the first 17 hours
of the accident.
How high are the odds of me bieng
pregnant?
And was I supposed to skip this months and
get next months instead?
thats all I was really confused about
sorry to rant.
it is possible to skip a period when you
take plan b, although most people ive
heard that took it got there normal one. i
guess it depends when you take it. You
havea very very small chance of being
pregnant, but taking a test is a good
idea, if its negative i wouldnt freak out
until your next period is missed then test
again. but i dont think the chances are
all that high that your pregnant.

I apreciate it.
I heard it was normal to skip, I mean I
took it 2 weeks before expecting my period
so i just wasnt sure. Thanks again.

Plan b has a very high success rate when
taken within the 48 hours as you did. A
pregnancy test can be accurate around 14
days past ovulation. So, hypothetically
you could test as early as 2 weeks from
the date of the incident and get and
accurate positive however you should
give it threeish weeks before you are
comfortable with a negative. If you then
skip your next period you should test
again. If that is negative it is time to
make a dr appt because it could be
something besides pregnancy causing you to
be late.
Good luck, keep us posted.
