Why do you need to quit school? Many women who decide to give birth and keep the baby are able to continue schooling. If your parents are trying to force you to quit, then I feel you need to look to the government for help. Depending on where you are, there can be programs to help young single mothers get through school so their futures aren't ruined by the unexpected child.

You do need to go to a doctor for multiple reasons. First of all, these attempts may have harmed the child so much that it would actually be meaner to give birth and far more dangerous than it would be to abort. Many people don't realize that abortion can be merciful. But the only way to know is to go get an ultrasound performed, and inform the doctor of everything you've done. You need to do this for your health too. The doctor can identify the exact age of the fetus, determine many obvious defects, and advise you on what to do next.

I think the risk of deformity and defects is very high at this point. Unfortunately, most of those things probably can't be fixed...

Yes, you put this poor baby through an awful lot. You will be unbelievably lucky if the poor little guy comes out without any problems. Actually you're lucky if you come out of all this without any problems too. It sounds like you gave your internal organs a real run for their money.

Make sure you see a doctor very soon. The doctor would be able to give you some idea as to the health of the child, although your doctor will not be able to answer all of your questions. There are many things such as various learning disabilities that wouldn't show up on an ultrasound. So there could be problems that the doctor is not able to see.

I am so sorry, Gelah. I understand why you tried to abort, and I'm very sorry that your parents are forcing you to become a parent at 17. I hope that things turn out the best they can for you.

Hey, llewellyn, go find a dictionary and look up tact. This kind of 'after the fact what a terrible person you are what a poor baby' craap is not helpful. This is a seventeen year old scared kid. You may think what you write isn't very impactful, but you don't know that. People say things on online forums that they would never say face to face. If you wouldn't say this to her face, you should keep your fingers off the keyboard. Do you think she's beating herself up enough already? Do you think you 'help' by adding this kind of fuel to the fire?

I said the same exact thing to her, Birch. She and the child are in a lot of danger right now, and it is her fault after all. She knows this now though, and hopefully she'll get to a doctor and receive some proper prenatal care. That's all we can hope for, now that she's decided to keep the pregnancy.

Can you give the baby up for adoption? I do not know how your country works, but you may not need parents permission in order to do this.

Medical care in the phillipines is a lot different than we have here...

Exactly. The girl is concerned about the baby having problems, which is definitely a possibility at this point. I am not going to sugar coat it and lie to her. She is going to have to go to the doctor, and I think she should be prepared. I think she should know what the possibilities are. If you want us to lie to her, Birch, and tell her everything is sure to be fine, I can't imagine how that will help in the long run. If she is going to raise this baby, she needs to learn about babies and how fragile they are. I bet she is learning a lot right now, and I am sure her doctor will have a lot more information for her. And, yes, I would say the same to her in person. I would not lie to her here or to her face.

I never called her a terrible person. I have seen you make some posts that were far less than tactful, so don't act high and mighty just because I told the girl the truth. And, no, I am not a man, although I can't imagine what that has to do with anything unless you are sexist.

Perfect? No-one is.

Healthy? I very much doubt it.

Oh and I hope you are being ironic in your post... Confused

NB/ Could Llewellyn and Birch please go to the abortion debate forum to continue their discussion; I have moved the comments over there. Just trying to keep this thread on topic for the benefit of the OP.

Thanks ladies Wink
