how far along do you have to be before you can tell what you are having a boy or girl?

i found out at 18 weeks.

personally i wouldn't trust anything before 18 weeks. if they tried to schedule my big u/s for 17 weeks i'd make them change it.

like everyone says it's 16-20 weeks when you can first find out.
Buuut I hate to be a super downer... at my 21 week scan I couldn't find out, they couldnt tell because the baby was bucking around like mad ... and I know quite a few people that had trouble finding out as well because the baby was in a funny position and so on.
I did find out at 30 weeks but I swear waiting until then was brutal!

my doctor wouldnt even do the scan until i was 22 weeks which is why i opted to pay for the 4d.. There are a few things you can do to get the baby moving before your u/s, like drink juice or something sugary.. although if your only 12 weeks it sounds like youve got some time.. omg i remember not knowing it was torture!

I never peeked. The 1st time I knew it was a girl. When she was born they said "It's a boy!" I said "no it's not look again", and they said "you're right, it's a girl". the 2nd time everyone thought it was a boy, but I didn't. She was a girl too. My friend had an ultrasound and they told her it was a boy, and then when she had the baby it was agirl. She had a blue boy baby room and everything! They told me to be on the safe side, if I wanted to peek, we should wait until 20 weeks, but I didn't look. I guess it didn't matter to me!

i'm almost 32 weeks and I don't know the sex of my baby. I feel like I'm the only one sometimes. I have an ultrasound on june 1st but I don't know if I'll find out. of course I'm super curious and it would be nice to know ahead of time but I feel like it would ruin the surprise on baby's birthday. I don't know maybe I'm old fashioned. Plus I don't really have a preference either way as long as it's a baby!! I don't blame others for finding out though, I can barely stand the suspense. Shocked
