Hello, I am a 32 year old male. 6'2", 192
lbs. I consider myself in excellent shape
fitness-wise. Very active, work out 5
times a week. No known family history of
heart problems. Some family members are in
poor health, mostly due to irresponsibl
habits - eating poorly, drinking, smoking.
Mother also has ulcerative colitis. I
myself eat as healthy as possible, have
never smoked, and rarely drink. Allergic
to penicillin (since birth). Have been
told I have a light case of IBS, and have
had surgery for a hernia when I was ten.
Also had asthma when I was younger but it
went away.
Recently I've been having chest tightness
- last two weeks or so. It is not all the
time, mainly in the morning and night.
Strangley I feel just fine working out -
everyday running a mile and a half,
push-ups, crunches, playing basketball. I
also feel like there's mucus deep in my
windpipe (below adam's apple) but I'm not
coughing and it doesn't feel like its
trickling. It feels like pressure across
my chest. At first it seemed like it was
on my left side, but its on the right
every now and then too. I haven't yet had
trouble breathing, only dizzy after
squating for awhile or standing up
quickly, and there is no true pain to
speak of.
Paranoid, I went to urgent care and had
them run some tests. EKG, chest x-ray,
labs (Tropinin, Myoglobin, CK-MB, TSH,
CBC, Basic Metabolic - and I also had my
Air Guard unit send off samples for
fasting lipid panel and hepatic funtion
panel). I don't know the results of the
lipids and hepatic panel, but the rest
came back normal (according to the PA who
saw me). My BP was 110/70, temp 97.5. No
pain anywhere when examined.
Over the last two years I've lost over 40
pounds, from working out incessantly and
eating right. I've never had high
cholesterol. I'd been taking Xenedrine and
Ginko-bilobo, but stopped.
Any idea what could cause the chest
tightness? Pleurisy? Lung infection?
Heart-related?
