Hello, I am currently taking Nordette
birth control pills. I am also interested
in taking 5-htp supplements for their mood
enhancing effects as I've been
experiencing slight depression and mood
swings as of late. My question is.. will
the 5-htp negate the effects of my birth
control pills? And if so, is there another
similar supplement that I can take that
WON'T affect my contraception?

5-htp is generally considered safe and may
be beneficial to many individuals. 5-htp
is a metabolic precursor of the
neurotransmitter "serotonin" ,responsible
for hunger, mood and sleep. There' s no
known interaction between 5-htp and
Nordette pills. However, you should
consult a gynecologist before taking 5 htp
as a supplement to your diet.
