my husband and I have been referred to a
fertility clinic...our family doctor has
done all she can for us... and as far as
she can tell we are both "normal"... was
wondering if anyone could/would share
their fertility clinic experiences... kind
of nervous... would really appreciate
it... thanks

Fertility clinics, obviously, specialize
in helping people struggling to get
pregnant. The doctors at the clinics have
more training than normal ob/gyns on
identifying and solving fertility
problems.
Did your ob/gyn test you and your husband
already? Your specialist will probably
run additional tests to diagnose and
problem and figure out what solutions
might work. Possibilities include
prescribing drugs, recommending surgery if
that might solve a problem, or
recommending procedures such as iui and
ivf.
Don't worry about the fertility
specialist. Just keep in mind that they
have more tools at their disposal than
your family doctor.

my family doctor tested my husband.. and
his results were normal. I had both an
internal and external ultrasound
done...which came back normal. I had blood
work done (testing for hormones) starting
at day 3 of my cycle and ending at day
21... and all those tests came back normal
as well. I guess I am just nervous... as
I never really thought I would have to go
this route... but obviously I am not the
only one. thanks for the insight.

I just recently started going to a
reproductive endocrinologist. She has
done many more tests than my ob/gyn did
and had some didfferent opinions of what
is going on with me. My ob/gyn had said
that I didn't have pcos and the RE said
that I do have pcos. The ob/gyn had said
that I wasn't ovulating on clomid because
my progesterone levels were so low, but
the RE said that I was "responding" to the
clomid because I had a period on 100 mg
clomid and that I may or may not have been
ovulating. Overall, I feel that the RE is
being much more detailed/ comprehensive in
finding out how to treat me and get me
pregnant. I am going in for another test
next week- an Hsg test to see if my tubes
are blocked. Also, my husbands dr ordered
a SA for him previously, but she is
ordering another one done through her
fertility clinic for a more detailed
analysis. The previous SA came out good
as far as sperm count and basic motility,
but she wants more detail on the shape?
tail type? Your first visit will probably
involve a vaginal exam and then a talk
with the dr in her office. If your
husband can come with you, I would highly
recommend it. The dr. gave us a lot of
information and it was helpful to have him
along for support and to make sure that we
got all of the correct information. I
have found the first 2 visits very
informative and helpful. My RE has said
that the next step for me is induction of
ovulation with a clomid and a trigger
shot, and maybe IUI. Good luck and
babydust to you.

thank you suzie for sharing your
experience with me... I am looking forward
to possibly taking a step closer to
becoming pregnant. my doctor says that it
will probably be a couple of months before
we get an appointment. so we'll keep
trying until then... thanks again... and
baby dust to you too...
