Pains Over the Heart - What's Wrong With Me , I'm 15 !
Posted: 05-27-07 11:47am

Hey guys and girls:

Thought I should talk to a doctor about this, I'm having pains on my heart at random times. Its usually on the lower or center part of the heart. What's going on? This will just come and go at random times, and has really gotten nasty when I run or otherwise exercise.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm trying to have an appointment made to see my doctor, but I wanted to ask here too, so I can have a bit of a better idea before I go.

This whole thing is very strange to me. Most of the time, people my age (I'm only 15) don't have problems like this.

Regards,

hi

sorry to hear about this pain you've been experiencing.

please could you describe it to me?

in particular:

Where exactly on your chest is it?
What does it feel like? (e.g. sharp stabbing or dull achy)
how severe is it (rate it 1-10)
does it come on suddenly or gradually?
how long does it last?
when did you first notice it?
anything makes it worse or better? (you've mentioned running making it worse)
do you notice anything else unusual apart from the pain?

tell me a bit more and i might be able to get back to you with some explanations...

On my heart. Sometimes its lower, sometimes its in the middle, other times its higher. Its always my heart that hurts though.

Sharp.

6-8.

Suddenly.

After I've sat down and stopped whatever physical activity I was engaged in, it goes away in between 5 and 15 minutes.

Can't remember, sorry. =(

It will randomly start, and when it does, physical exertion of any kind makes it worse. Standing still and/or sitting helps make it stop.

Well, my brain literally hurts at times. So does my carotid artery on a rare occasion.

Thanks for the help, its very much appreciated.

ok thanks for the details Smile

however i need you to be a bit more descriptive about where the pain is... it is difficult for me to narrow down the list of possibilities if you don't localise it. chest pain can be caused by muscular, heart, lung or abdominal problems... so there are many possible causes.

to help me narrow down the list please could you tell me:

What do you mean by over your heart? as in describe where on your chest the pain is.

Same with brain and carotid artery... please could you describe the location in relation to the outside rather than inside of your body?

Is the pain worse if you take a deep breath in?
How about if you lie down?
Is it worse after a large meal?

Do you ever get dizzy or pass out?

Would you say you are generally fit and healthy?

Sorry to bombard you with questions - I'm just trying to get as full a picture as possible.

Put your finger on your sternum, and trace it to your left. Right below where your left nipple is, where you can feel your heart beat the best. Its the heart itself that is hurting me.

Brain - randomly, I'll be feeling pain on either the left or right hemisphere of the top of my head.

I don't think so....

The chest pain gets worse. Also, it gets a bit harder to breathe.

No, however, I will suddenly have vision trouble at times. At random times, it'll very slowly go pitch black for me. Getting my vision back is also nice and slow. (about 45 seconds to 2 minutes).

I'm not in the best shape in the world, but I'm not bad either.

Don't worry about it, whatever you need to know to help me figure this out. Besides, I am a certified ambulance attendant, so I'm just as if not more guilty than you of bombarding people with questions. Razz

What are you waiting for? Why don't you go to the doctor ASAP????? If for no other reason than to allay your fear that it is your heart.
GO!!!

The appointment has already been made, lol. My date is in a couple weeks, trust me, I got in touch with the doc ASAP, I know how serious this could possibly be. I'm just asking for other feedback until my appointment date, just to give me a better idea.

Sounds muscular to me.
But, honestly, how come it takes weeks to see a doctor for a potentially dangerous ailment?????????????
Don't like it. At all.

MrMedic,

It's been a while since anyone posted. Have you been to the doctor? What did they say?

My husband just experience a massive heart attack and his pain was just under his heart. We had no idea it was a heart attack until we got him to the hospital.

Heart attack signs include other areas other than just over the heart and down the arm. It can also be in the stomach and back (both of which my husband experienced but we didn't realize they were signs)

Check out this website: [link removed]

Can't wait to hear how you are doing.

Yeah, I'd also like to know how it's going....
Let's just hope that he went to the doc, found out it's nothing and didn't bother coming back here.

Hey,

I'm sorry to have worried you all, my appointment is on July 10th. I'm definately getting bloodwork done, obviously other tests will have to follow to find out what this is.

The pain seems to have decreased since I last posted, however, no way in hell am I taking any chances, I'm still planning on getting my ass over to the doctor's office on my appointment date.

I'll let you all know what she has to say. Thanks for your concerns, it means a lot.

I'm glad to hear that you have a doctor's appointment to get this checked out. I will be checking to see what you find out.

Good luck.

My doctor wrote me up a prescription for an EKG. I just have to get my butt to a hospital as soon as possible and get it done. Hope it doesn't take too long to get an appointment, I'm trying to have it done at a pediatric hospital, because my heart is probably different than that of an adult, and it would be good if someone specializing in my age group did it.

I'll let you all know what I find out. Thanks again for all of your concern.

this may be a little late...
how much do you weigh and how tall are you?
Do you have any family history of cardiac problems?
Describe your typical diet.

I'm 5 ' 6, 120lbs, and my Grandma, as well as my Great Grandma have had heart problems (however, their diets aren't very good).

I don't eat much meat, I eat a lot of pasta, soy, vegetable and other meat substitutes. I also have an apple, some grapes and a banana when I can, but I forget to a lot of the time.
