Acute Hiv Infection? I'm So Dead ... Plz Help ! Kinda Long Posted: 05-27-07 21:31pm
In the early morning of May 14th I had
protected virginal intercourse with a
street hooker (so stupid), it was my first
night cuz the woman I loved so much was
nuts and turned her back on me so I
intended to get revenge (even more stupid)
- -
Well, about 2 days after the exposure I
started to feel some acute arthritis
symptoms in my left forearm (and the
elbow) and I thought it was just some
lingering problem resulted from using the
computer too much... the joint pain went
away in about two days. During those days
I've also had a slight diarrhea (for 2
days), fatigue (maybe just due to not
sleeping well cuz the weather's too hot),
and pains in the back and buttocks. I
can't determine whether I've had night
sweats those days cuz the weather in
Hainan (the place I stayed in) is simply
too hot.
On May 20th I returned home and my dad was
very happy to see me, at that moment I
started to get very worried and paranoid.
What if I've caught some virus? Could it
possibly be HIV? Or could it be some other
STDs? That very evening I noticed that
I've got a large patch of oral ulcer with
sharp edges in the lower left part of my
mouth, and my teeth bled! (both stopped 2
days later) I
started browsing on the Internet for info.
related to the topic the very evening and
got very scared. When I woke up the next
day and the day after that I got profuse
cold sweats, and I was soooo afraid to
pass any possible virus to my dad so I stopped eating
at home and in the afternoon of May 24th I
ran away from home on the pretext of
visiting a friend in a small town in the
province.
Now I've arrived in town for 4 days and
more symptoms started to show up! First
I've noticed tiny needle-like white
growths which the doctor said was pearly
penile papules and she said I've had yeast
infection. She gave me something to wash
off the yeast and also some kinda gel
that's used to treat skin disease. The
papules condition became less severe after
applying the medication for two days but
the reddishness on the inside of my
foreskin never went away, also I have been
having painful urination since the papules
showed up... And yesterday I found that my
feet seemed to be (probably) infected with
yeast as well! :O Up until now I haven't
had any fever (not that I know of, though
I've never taken my temperature) and the
night sweats stopped after arriving in the
small town. However I feel icy cold all
over my body and my muscles sometimes give
a skipping sensation (Dunno how to
describe this, just like the muscle
contracts briefly and repeatedly on its
own)
All in all I know that the night sweats,
yeast infections, coldness and muscle
problems could be all due to psychological
stress, YET I've started to have joint
pains, pains in the back, fatigue and
diarrhea BEFORE I've started to worry
about anything! I understand that symptoms
mean nothing but...
Plz... I'm so disoriented and terrified
now and I'm full of remorse and living
fear that my dad might end up living all
alone without anyone to care for him (my
mom committed suicide when I was 12 and my
granny commited suicide when I was 22
sth.), I've had chronic depression and
attemped suicide for once but the thought
of my father brought me back. God...
Although I used a condom during the
intercourse (lasted for approx. 3~4 mins),
yet I can't be sure of the quality of the
condom cuz I've never checked it (the
hooker helped me with putting on and
taking off the condom), it could be leaky,
or poorly made... Gosh!
Is it possible to have symptoms of acute
HIV infection only 2~3 days after the
exposure? And it seems that my first
symptoms never lasted long enough to be
taken seriously... And also, I've been
reading a lot on the net and that surely
has aggravated my mental stress, I've read
that the results of an antibody test won't
be reliable until after 6 weeks (some say
3 months or even longer) after the
exposure but I seriously doubt if I could
survive that long cuz I've been counting
the days and could have a mental/physical
collapse at any moment.
Please, I'm in desperate need of your
opinions and advice, any feedback would be
greatly appreciated.
Have a nice day,
ps: Forgive my English and the length of
the post, I'm Chinese.

Oh almost forgot... I had clotted throat
for about 3 days (then somewhat got
better) and I've had red rashes (with hard
spots inside) on my skin, also some kinda
maybe black swollen porous glands that
were about 5 mm in length and when I
squeezed them they were gone and released
yellowish gel-like substance that smelt
really foul...
Thanks again for reading, please gimme
some advice or maybe reassurance

You had been to see a doctor to be treated
for the yeast infection, while you were
there did you let the doctor know of your
other syptoms and did you test for other
possible STD's? You should really stop
reading about possible illnesses if you
are stressing over the situation as much
as you are. It only makes your syptoms
become worse or you become paranoid over
symptoms that are not really there. I am
not really sure of any of the syptoms
pertaining to Std's, yet what you have
described does not sound good and should
be brought to the attention of your
doctor. As for symptoms of having HIV I
have not heard of symptoms showing up that
quickly after having intercourse. It
normally takes 6 weeks or longer for Hiv
to appear positive in a clinic test. So
all I can say is be honest with your
doctor that is what they are here for and
find out what to do from there. The
Internet is not going to help you in
getting healed for something you don't
know what you have,
Good luck

I agree with Heather.
It is rare to have that many symptoms that
early in cases of HIV. Most people have
no symptoms at all when they test
positive. Some don't have symptoms for as
much as ten years.
The only way to know for sure is to wait
and take a test. You're right that you
should wait at least six weeks. If you
test negative, you can wait until it has
been three months and test again. If you
still test negative, make sure your doctor
knows all of your symptoms. See if he or
she suggests testing for anything else.
You do not have to worry about infecting
your father or anyone else unless you plan
on having sex with them, sharing needle
drugs with them, or any other such thing.
They can't get it just by being the same
room as you, sharing a bathroom, kissing,
sharing a fork, or anything like that.

I actually took it from my favorite Welsh
fairy tale, "Llewellyn and Gelert."

You had protected sex and you do not need
to test.

Keep in mind that condoms are not 100%
effective even when exactly as intended!
