Q: Ultrasound Question

Just wondering if anyone can tell me; is it better for the baby to be moving around during the ultrasound or not? I am going for my 32 1/2 week ultrasound later this week. My first one at 20 weeks wasn't a very good experience because they found something that wasn't supposed to be there and the baby was hard to see. So, now, the doc is sending me for another one even though I don't need it. I think she felt sorry for me a little bit!! I just don't know if I should try drinking some cold water or milk first to try to make the baby move around or if the baby sitting still is better. I think maybe they move around anyway from the high pitched sound the ultrasound makes. Right now, the baby is lying facing my back with the head in my pelvis and bum by my rib cage. I'm just so excited to be able to see baby again and I hope the pics turn out okay.

My sonographer wanted the baby active so she could get good views of the chambers of the heart, kidneys, and to see if the baby was practicing to breathe yet.
Plus it's really neat to see them moving around.

Ok thanks. that's good to know. because if I drink a glass of cold water I'm pretty much guaranteed that baby will be dancing around in there in 15 seconds. I'm sure it'll be neat to see either way. At this point, unlike at 20 weeks, the baby has pretty much nowhere to hide anyway.

If a glass of cold water wakes baby up, I would suggest taking a bottle of cold water with you.

then the baby may be still enough for the tech to get some good measurements etc while baby isn't so active.
Then you could have your cold drink and wake baby up.

Maybe call ahead and ask if that would be OK.

I've seen some people post before that they couldn't get measurements or see xyz because baby was hyper active that day.

So maybe you can get the best of both worlds?

That's how my first ultrasound was ... haha I think it was bridget who posted to drink o.j and she'll bounce around for 'em... haha so I drank A LOT of o.j and the baby wouldn't sit still... she had to keep restarting and everything!
