Having Endoscopy & Flex Sig Next Week. Have ?'s Posted: 02-25-04 16:05pm
Hi everyone
brief history. Diagnosed with gerd
several years ago after years of suffering
& a diet rich in tums. After
prilosec & all of the other meds quit
working, now on aciphex 2x a day. Had a
post-op illius (hysterectomy on the 14th
of january) back on january 18th.
Resolved with medical intervention within
36 hours. Hospitalized with nausea &
vomiting from the 18th - 31st of january.
Still having problems with nausea &
vomiting. Dr has me on reglan, aciphex
& zofran. Stomach emptying was a 35
& upper gi showed moderate gerd. Ct
scan was pretty much normal. Anyway, saw
g.I. Dr yesterday for the first time.
Ordered the 2 procedures for next week to
see if we can find out what is going on.
First of all, does anyone have any light
as to what it sounds like it could be?
Stomach feels like it is in my throat most
of the time now even though I do
everything I am supposed do when it comes
to treating the gerd (staying away from
fatty foods, etc). Also what should I
expect from these procedures? He is
doing both under twilight sedation. I am
concerned about my "gag" reflex, but he
assured me that they have stuff for that.
Any info would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
tara

I'm not sure about the second test, but I
have had the endoscopy done before. I
have a bad gag reflux and only had
problems in the last few seconds because I
woke up a little early and started
gagging, but they put me back out real
quick so it really wasn't that bad. It
did make my throat hurt a little for the
next few days. All in all though it was
a painless procedure. You are guarunteed
to feel drugged for several hours
afterwards so don't make any plans for the
rest of the day! I have had problems
with nausea and reoccuring battles with
gerd even though I have been on prevacid
for a year and a half. I'll do good, and
then I will get bouts where I can't eat
anything without getting sick. I have
had tons of tests, and nothing is wrong
with me. So far i'm just dealing and
keeping stomach meds near-by at all times
in case I get a flare-up. One doc will
say "maybe it's anxiety".. My
gastroenterologist isn't sure what to
think, other than they have ruled out all
medical problems (no ulcers and all
digestive organs look fine). But that's
just my luck..
