call for desperate measures. I never thought I'd do this b/c I doubt that it works, but I'm desperate. I want to try putting cereal in her bottle. Ava was sleeping from 9 to 6 for about a month then all of a sudden for the last 2 months, she's been waking up and it's getting worse, now it's 3-5 times a night. She just needs me to hold her or to walk with her to fall back asleep, sometimes she needs a bottle. I don't know what to do. We have a bedtime routine, she knows it's night time, she just can't sleep all night. I refuse to let her cry.
How much cereal should I put per 6 oz. and should I get a different nipple since it may be thicker?

How old is she now? I don't think there is anything wrong with putting cereal in her bottle to help her sleep better. You can buy nipples with a ton of different size holes. But I have no idea what size would be best. Sorry I couldn't be of more help, but I'm sure these great mom's will know exactly what you need. Wink

She'll be 7 months on June 6th. The time flies by so quickly.

betsy, i already put cereal in .gabe's bottles. not because he won't sleep at night (although without he stays up until 2am), but because he was eating 7oz every 2 or 3 hours, & my doctor said he wasn't too comfortable with that when he's only 2 months old. so he had us start putting 2 tablespoons of rice cereal in a 6oz bottle. it works wonders. he goes to bed around 11 or 12 & sleeps until 10 or 11. & .he isn't eating nearly as often & he'll only take 5 or 6oz at a feeding. i'd ask your doctor, but if she's eating a 6oz bottle, 2 tablespoons should be plenty. & .we cut little holes in the nipples of his bottles to make the existing hole a little bigger.

She woke up for 2 bottles last night, so maybe it is that she's hungry.

She could also be cutting teeth. DIdn't you say she had alredy cut her bottoms??

When .oni cut her top, she cut all 4 at once and was helllllla cranky and woke up for no apparent reason at night.

Try giving her "little teethers" numbing gel and tylenol or motrin.

The tylenol and numbing gel saved my sanity!!!!

She hasn't been fussy at all lately. Based on what happened when she cut the first two teeth, I don't think it's teething.

Don't worry about it. I'd go ahead and giver her some. I was always the type that said no rice, no solids of any type until atleast 6 months..but..Brayden is about 15 weeks and I started giving him a little in his bottle at night because he has been waking every 1-2 hours!! I had to go buy the next size nipples for his night time bottle that I put that rice in. Just try it with the nipple you have and see if she can get anythimg out, if not get a bigger nipple. Sometime I think our bigger nipples are too big (beause we don't put very much rice in, just a little) so just pay attentio0n if she seems to be gulping it, and then add rice as needed.

Adding rice has definately helped brayden sleep more so I'd say give it a try! Hope it helps!

Last night was miserable. The slow flow nipples didn't work, so I poked a hole, but that still didn't work. Then I realized while she was screaming for her bottle that I had some medium flow nipples I bought a couple of weeks ago that was already boiled, so I tried those and it worked perfect.
She took 6 oz with 2 tbs of mixed grain cereal (rice cereal always gave her gas and she was done with the oatmeal and I never bought more) and fell asleep at 7:40. She work up 45 minutes later and took 3 more oz. of formula with 1 tbs of rice cereal, so she had 9 oz and cereal in her. She went back down at 8:35. She slept until 11:00. She cried twice that I had to go in and give her the noonie and move her back to the middle of the crib, but I never took her out. Well as soon as Jesse and I went to bed at 11, she woke up crying. I must have gotten up with her about 15 times last night from 11 to 6. From 11 to midnight she kept waking up crying, but the noonie would do the trick. Well at midnight she woke up and wouldn't go back to sleep. She kept arching her back and squirming. She had bad gas poor baby. She kept farting so bad. Everytime I'd rock her, she'd sleep fine, the second I put her down, she'd cry until I rocked her again. This lasted until 3:15. I just gave her a bottle thinking it would help, well she slept from 4:00 after multiple times of trying to put her down until 5:30. I tried to put her down a few times until at 6 I just got up and fixed her another bottle. When I was making it she fell asleep against my cheek. She only wanted a couple of ounces. I tried to put her down a few more times and she didn't let. Finally I had to put her on top of me, belly to belly and gradually roll to my side to get her off and we slept for about 2 hours (my longest stretch). When's nap time???

I was out of mylacon and tylenol and I think oatmeal will be better on her belly, so I'm going to the store today.
It could be teeth too. I take back what I told you Sarah, she has a little diaper rash and a rash on her cheeks from drooling -- those two things happened last time she cut those teeth.

I'm praying for a better night! Every once in a while I think about letting her cry to fall asleep, but I don't want her to be in pain or teething and think I don't care about her. I'll never know if it's teething/gas or if she just wants me to pick her up.

She always eats dinner right before her bedtime routine (bath, book, bottle).

No, she takes 2-3 45 minutes to 1 hour naps a day. I think she just had gas so bad last night.
