Issues With Falling Asleep Posted: 05-29-07 23:26pm
I'm currently on Antidepressants, but I
still have trouble falling asleep....
My antidepressants helped me with not
sleeping too much, and sleeping deeper at
night, but I still have issues with
falling asleep. Most nights, I have to
force myself to lay down in bed, because I
feel like I'm wasting time by going to
sleep. Once I do lay down, I usually get
itchy all over and toss and turn. I can
fall asleep once I've worn myself out and
found that one comfy spot... Tonight, I
was sleepy, but as soon as I laid down, I
was wide awake again. It seems that I
just can't shut my mind or body down
enough to fall asleep..
Does anybody know of any pre-bedtime
stretches or remedies for my "sleep
anxiety"?

hey, thanks for you help to me... here's
my advice for you...
I don't know if this is from the
anti-depressants or not, but I used to
have a lot of trouble sleeping. Two things
that i found to be very useful were
reading and/or watching tv. both of these
things may seem very obvious, but they
worked for me. another idea is to turn on
a fan or listen to the radio (very
softly), as it will take your mind off of
not sleeping and it will wander off on the
sound.
I hope this helps...also, don't try to
actually "tire" yourself out by running or
any other type of work-out, because it
only makes you more alert; and thus will
keep you awake.
And, pay attention to what you
eat/drink.....no caffeine
Some antidepressant have a stimulant
effect. Some have sedative effects. Have
you considered taking sleeping pills at
night to relieve your insomnia if you feel
that this is a serious issue for you? Not
enough sleep can worsen any health
condition. Mentally and physically wise,
you will be tired and more irritable.
I am like that too. I take my
antidepressant in the morning which is
effexor. and at night I take Trazodone,
which is the safest way to a prescribed
antidepressant that makes you sleepy.
Try not to go down the over-the-counter
sleeping pills route, because they are
very habit forming. And also, try to stay
away from benzodiazapines.
I wish you well. Yoga helps to relax you
sometimes.
