Hi Dyan, so good to have someone to consult with. Hope u r feeling better, and recovering from your surgery. MY tmd has been bad for the last year or so. I have a library full of self-help books, piles of supplements, none of which have really helped. As you know from my posts I am currently trying the LVI orthotic. It isn't helping at all with my weather sensitivity. The day before it rains here in Ohio I am pretty useless! But, in the week I have been wearing the orthotic I have had a couple goods days no pain meds, which is amazing. So, I was wondering what is your take on it? Is it possible the new bite will help a lot, but the weather pain is just normal aging for someone with TMD. I told my TMJ dentist I would be happy with even 50% reduction in pain. Maybe thats what is happening.

yes it is very possible that a new bite will give you all the releif in the world. You just have to give it time--It wont happen over night.

Im doing better today. I am trying to get off the pain pills. I never take anything for Pain and so its only after surgery that I "indulge"myself and take the perscription.

soething that may help you--alternate between moist heat and ice. It made me feel better. just 20min on and then switch. see if that helps at all. once again im here if you need me.

Dyan, how can you not take pain meds? doesn't it HURT? I will do the heat and ice. I have been confused about which one is more beneficial, all the docs have told me something different. I read that a cold cloth on the back of your neck is good for certain muscles, I tried it last night and it felt good. But I still needed pain pills. Some of the patients at the TMJ office said they had instant relief with this orthotic, on the other hand, my dentist says I have the worst bite in the practice right now.

Hey

it hurts like heck. I just choose not to take it. from my experience pain pills make me depressed and emotional and makes things on a not pain level worse. I dont like who i am on pain pills. yes ill take ibuprophen when its too bad but I just grin and bear it most of the time.

Yes its true some people have instant releife with an lvi orthotic. I did and then i got worse. Howver that orthotic was the only thing that helped me get through any of it. that dentist needs to really focus on you and find out what the problem is.

Ive been told that ice is more beneficial---after surgery both were great. do you massage your joints and do stretches? Perhaps you should go to a atlas orthoganist at the same time. I do that and it works wonders. you can pm me at anytime or email me. Ill do all in my power to help you out.

Another thing that helped was massage therapy. Hang in there things will get better. Last month and in fact the past 15 years I was right where you were. even today sometimes i wonder if there is hope for me. This surgery was supposed to fix it---what if it didnt? thats a answer i have to wait for. I firmly beleive that there is hope for all tmd patients. We just have to make ourselves heard.

as you know im right here for you. feel free to ask anything you want.
