Hi, I'm new to this and wondered if you
could help. I have a really bad pain - it
is below my right ribs at the back, and
feels like someone has kicked/ punched me
there. This pain goes around the side and
also through to the front. At the front, I
have a very sharp pain. In total the pain
is horrible. I feel like I have an arrow
or something going through from back to
front. The pain at the back makes me
unable to get comfortable standing or
sitting, and feels uncomfortable when I
breathe. It makes me a bit panicky/
sweaty. I have episodes like this 2/3
times a year. In between, my right side is
always a bit uncomfortable and I always
have to sleep on it - never in any other
position, it is too painful. I have been
like this for 13 years. I have been to the
drs many times, and done loads of urine
tests. Sometimes there is an infection,
most times not. Whenever I have an
ultrasound (always have to wait for an
appointment, so the severe pain is not
there) it is always clear. Some drs say
kidney stones, some say infection, some
say IBS (I have no problems at all with
the bowel area). What does anyone else
think? I would like to know if it really
really is kidneys, and if so, what can I
do to help this situation and never have
this severe pain again??

Welcome to .ehealth!
I'm sorry you've been given the run around
about this. It sounds alot like a kidney
infection to me. but I'm not a doctor. To
help prevent (or lessen the occurance) on
the infections there is a few things you
can do.
First, Drink cranberry juice, as often as
you are comfortable with. If you don't
like cranberry juice they make a
supplement now.
Second, Drink,drink,drink. You need to
keep your system a flushed out as
possible. You get an infection when the
bacteria in our body sits in the kidneys
for to long. That is also why it is
important to never hold your urine. When
you need to go...go.
I hope that was some help. I'm sure
someone else will be by with some tips
too.
I hope you stick around. Keep us posted!

Hi
Sounds like the kind of pain I had. My
Dr. did an IVP (intravenous pylogram) it's
an x-ray using dye. It shows how well
your kidneys are draining. Anyway here's
a site for you to check. Just copy and
paste. Also drinking lots of water is a
very good idea. Keeps your kidneys
flushing toxins.

I should mention that this is rare and I
am not a Dr. My pain would start in my
flank, move into my back and then to the
front. It slowly got worse over time. I
would check with a physician. Let us
know how you do. Good luck.
