So since I was having lots of sharp pain
in my left side, I had an u/s done
yesterday at 5 weeks and 4 days and he
only saw a sak. There was nothing in
it...He also saw 2 huge cysts on my left
ovary. He will do another u/s in a week.
I am soooooooooooooo scared

Try not to worry. It is common for them to
not be able to see anything but a sac at
this gestational age. As for the
cysts...Well, There would be two reasons
for them. Reason one: The meds that they
had you on before your iui made you
produce cysts. A very common side effect.
Reason two: It is a luteal cyst and is
there because they can sometimes swell
after fertilization instead of dissipating
like normal. Either way. They hurt like a
b. I know...All you can do is relax.
Movement can cause the pain to worsen or
even rupture the cyst. (talk about mind
numbing pain) So no unneeded physical
activity. Period.
In the meantime, I will keep you in my
prayers hun.
I'm with you all the way!

IF you are in a lot of pain the doctor
might prescribe you some tylenol 3. You
might want to ask if it would be
acceptable for you.
Did they happen to tell you how big the
cysts were or if there was any free fluid?

Im sure your baby will be fine.
I had an ultra sound done at 5 weeks and 5
days and there was a yolk sac but no baby.
i had another ultra sound done last week
just to make sure everything was ok and
that was when we seen a baby and a
heartbeat and everything. So, its normal
to see just a yolk sac at 5 weeks.

I'm sure everything is ok sweetie. I can
only imagine how nervous you would be, but
from what other girls have said on this
site about the sac, it sounds like it is
ok to not see anything but the sac. I
will keep you in my prayers that
everything will be ok.

Did the doctor think the cysts would
affect the baby? I had a really huge
cyst, like a big tumour, that had to be
removed when I was 22 weeks along. They
found it when I was 20 weeks and it was
taking up so much room the baby couldn't
grow but other than that the baby was
fine. I hope everything turns out okay
for you and baby. Good luck, I'll pray
for you.

Thank you kaerbear,
The doctor said it should resolve on it's
own. One was soooooo big even he was
surprised. At this point he needs to make
sure I have a healthy pregnancy first
since he couldn't really see much but the
sack. I think once that is confirmed he
will watch my cysts and if needed then
take it out. My next appointment is next
Wed. That is when they will tell me if
the pregnancy is working or not. I will
be 6 1/2 weeks then.

i was exactly 8 weeks when they let me
hear the heartbeat and you could see a
little baby on the screen. That was last
week so iam 9 weeks now.
But, i was so worried at the first ultra
sound at 5 weeks 5 days when they said
either the pregnancy isnt progressing or
iam just a less amount of weeks than i
thought. So, if you are for sure 5 weeks
and 5 days then its perfectly normal to
just see the yolk sac. im sure your baby
will be fine. My due date was originally
december 25th and it is now pushed up to
january 3rd because of the fact that i
must have ovulated later in my cycle and
thought my pregnancy was farther along.

I just came home from a healthy baby
prenatal program thingy and they had this
book with life size pics of the baby at
different stages. The 6 week old baby was
smaller than a grain of rice. Like
between a grain of rice and a sesame seed.
l.o.l. So don't worry too much if the
doc couldn't see anything. Baby would
still be pretty tiny.

Thanks you guys.
I am confused about something though.
yolk sac is different than the sac right?
Cause all he saw was the pregnancy sac and
there was nothing inside? I was looking
so hard for somethin in there

They are different in all of the pics I
have seen. Here is one I found on the
web. I don't know if this will get
removed or not but it was the best picture
I could find.

OH yeah, and in some of the pics I've seen
the yolk sac looks bigger than the fetus
and in others it is smaller, I guess it
all depends on the age of the fetus.

The yolk sac is the first element seen in
the gestational sac during pregnancy,
usually at 5 weeks gestation.
It is a critical landmark, identifying a
true gestation sac.
It is quite echogenic (light) to
ultrasound, and reliably seen early.
A membranous sac attached to an embryo,
providing early nourishment and
functioning as the circulatory system of
the human embryo before internal
circulation begins.
Yeah, I'm bored and I can't sleep.
