Gallbladder Removal Necessary? Hida Test And Liver Function Posted: 05-30-07 17:26pm
Here is my situation:
I had symptoms that were vague,
everything from pain under my right rib
area to lower back pain.
I had a HIDA scan done and saw a
specialist. They could not get the dye in
me during the HIDA scan and would have
given me morphine but they did not tell me
ahead of time about the morphine choice
and I had no one to drive me home, so they
did not. The dye would not go into my
gallbladder but who knows if it would have
with morphine?
The specialist wanted to take a "wait and
see" approach. I had one other attack over
a month ago and my doctor took some blood
tests and also did a ultrasound and then a
CT scan. This showed calcified gallstones
but by this time, I was symptom-free.
To complicate matters, I was on Vytorin
which can cause liver tests to come back
abnormal. Every time I was on the Vytorin,
it did. When I was off it, the liver tests
were fine. However, one time when I was
not on the Vytorin it came back slightly
high. Vytorin can raise the risk of
gallstones as well. I was also told that
gallstones can cause abnormal liver tests
I am so confused now. What would anyone
suggest I do at this point? I have been
exercising which is supposed to LOWER the
risk of gallstone surgery by 20% but I
don't know if this is the case with
calcified gallstones.
the only thing i can say is if the
symptoms persist to get your gallbladder
removed. For now change your diet, dont
eat high fatty foods or friend foods or
any foods that irritate it more, eat lots
of fruits and veggies. It might help so
you dont get another attack.
