My sister is a hairdresser and they advise
pregnant women to stay away from any
chemical treatments during pregnancy
because there is the slight chance that
from breathing in the fumes or some of the
chemicals being absorbed into the
bloodstream through the scalp that it
could cause complications. It's a very
small risk but it's up to you if you do it
or not, there is no deffinate yes or no
answer for the hair question as everyone
has their own opinions on it

Yes, I have also read that when you're
pregnant you should stay away from any
hair treatments that involve chemicals
because they may be absorbed into your
system, although there isn't any evidence,
it's probably best to avoid such
treatments.
You'll probably find anyway that your hair
texture will change, it may be dryer or
more oily than normal because of the
hormones, so if you were to have a perm it
may not work as it normally would.

I got my hair highlighted via foil. The
hairdresser used two fans (I requested) to
make certain that I had very limited
exposure to the fumes. The fumes were not
that bad. However, I do know that the
fumes from perms are extremely strong. I
personally would stay away from perms or
straighteners.
Also, hair does strange things when
pregnant. My hair first hair color came
out a mixture of red and white. The hair
dresser did everything she could to tone
it down. I had to come back the next day
to fix it. It did get fixed but took a lot
of work. The hairdresser stated that it
must be because I am pregnant.
Good luck!
