My Adventure At the Doctors ... long

First, I wanted to thank everyone who sent
me good vibes for this appt.
Unfortunately, they weren't enough...
Ok, so I get there and my normal doctor is
behind, so they ask if I would mind seeing
one of the male doctors there. Being the
nice person that I am, I agree. So in
walks dr. fu.... thats right....f....u....
Ok, first question of the day. How many
times can a doctor say "not pregnant" in
one office visit? (answer: about 100 times
to many)
Dr: So you didn't get a period in may?
Me: Nope
Dr: But your not pregnant
Me: I know
Dr: Are you sure you didn't get it earlier
in the month, and maybe you forgot?
Me: I'm
positive that I have not bled since april
14th
Dr: Ok, why do you think you haven't
gotten your period?
Me: Because I have a cyst. I have had 3
previous cysts that were large enough to
cause pain and stop my cycle.
Dr: And your sure it was the cyst that was
stopping your cycles? You weren't just
late...maybe due to stress?
Me: Uhmm...yeah. After three months I went
to the doctor everytime and they rx my
something to start my period.
Dr: Wow...I have only seen this in one
other patient in my 22 years as a dr. (
These are
comforting words to hear from your dr).
(mind you he is saying this in a tone that
leads me to believe that he is humoring
me)
He then tells me to lie back. Here comes
the fun part...
Dr: Ok, I see you have had a lap. What was
that for? (He is trying to insinuate that
I have mislead him somehow by not telling
him (it's in my chart)).
Me: yes, when I was 14 I had a cyst that
need to be removed along with some fluid.
Dr: So you really have had a problem with
these. Maybe it is interupting your cycle.
( I
thought that we had already established
that)
Dr: So here is your uterus (pushes
up)....and your left
ovary....and.....and....well, were's your
right ovary? (he routes around some more)
ok, I have a 5 cm cyst in my right ovary.
It shouldn't be to hard to find
ok. So...the squemish should look away...
He decides he has to check through
my....rear....to see if he can find it.
Good news. he finds
it!. It had evidentally twisted backward
(hence, why I have called twice for a
darvocet refill
)
So he presses, and I feel the pressure
that I was feeling, leave. This can only
mean one thing. My cyst
has just been ruptured (I am now
sitting with a heating pad, darvocet, and
seriously considering some vodka)
He appologizes profusely. (not good
enough) he refills my darvocet.
and gives me a rx for promentrium to
restart my period.
Moral of the story....God doesn't like
me....

I am so sorry that you had to go through
this. I am hoping that maybe now
everything will get better.
I hate seeing dr's besides mine too. They
always seem to not really care and not
listen to me. I loooooove my dr though so
I could just be biased.

.if this was me he would have been hearing
some major complaints. 22 years and he
can't even find your ovary with a cyst?

OH my goooooooosh. I feel so bad for you.
I had to get the finger up the butt too
when I had a cyst. It hurts enough
without an incompetent dr. I hope you
feel better soon. I'm sure god loves you
but dr. fu sounds like a bit of an fool.

he had to find your ovary via your
rear???
umm OK do you wanna go slap him now or
shall I?
I totally hear ya on the stupid questions
part.
When I was in A&E (ER to you guys)
this one doc asked me about 900 times how
far along i was and when was my last
period and how much pain was I in.
This went on for like an hour or so and I
was getting pissed both at him and the
pain, when he asked me again what kind of
pain it was and I snapped out "it's a
painful pain". Steve was sat behind where
the doctor was standing and about killed
himself laughing and had to leave for a
short while.
I'm sorry you got a crap doctor, and hun
if you get.
Abdominal pains (severe).
Chest pain or shortness of
breath.
Headaches (severe).
Eye
problems, such as blurred vision.
Severe leg or arm pain or
numbness.
please go to the ER if he's ruptured your
cyst there's a risk of poisoning to your
body as the fluid wasn't drained.
You'll probably be OK if the cyst was just
fluid filled, but if it was infected there
is a risk.
Take care and be safe

Thanks ladies.
I just wanted to add a question for all
you very knowledgeable women (specifically
kia)
Prometrium is Progesterone. But it is
supposes to "restore normal menstral
period"
I wanted to add: Thanks for the info kia.
he told me to call him back if the pain
was still there in two days.
Duhh...Yeah, its still gonna hurt.
Anyways, The ultrasound showed a simple
cyst with clear fluid (no blood detected)
so, I'm not to worried. I will have to
watch for infection though. he said it
must have been thinned walled. (that is
what it says on my tv scan too). You'd
think he would have checked that..

basically progesterone stops the bleeding
- it is the drop in progesterone that
causes the endometrium to be shed and a
rise in the follicle stimulating hormone -
this is your follicular phase. It is
dominated by estrogen.
The estrogen is produced by the developing
follicles and especially by the follicle
which become dominant (and contains the
ovum which will be released during
ovulation).
This estrogen stimulates the growth of the
endometrium.
A surge in luteinising hormone then leads
to ovulation, the mature follicle ruptures
and the corpus luteum (the site of the
ruptured follicle) produces progesterone.
As the corpus luteum dies off the
progesterone drops - if you haven't yet
conceived - and you get your period
again.
if you have conceived the rise in hcg
causes the life of the corpus luteum to be
extended and thus it continues to produce
progesterone and a small amount of
estrogen, which helps keep you pregnant
until the placenta is fully developed and
take over the hormone production.
So when protemtruim (or other
progesterone) is prescribed they are
aiming to "jump start" your system again.
Literally forcing you into the luteal
phase in the hope that you will start anew
with a natural follicular phase.

I knew you would clear that up for me.
Thanks, I really appreciate it. As you can
imagine, I don't have alot of faith in
dr.fu.
It's also a good thing that I know it
raises your blood platelet levels. *which
mine are normally elevated* and I am
already on asprin therapy for. If he had
checked my chart he would have known that
I need to take regular asprin instead of
baby asprin and to watch for possible
signs of a blood clot.....I think they
must give away phd's...

Wait, so this quack stuck his hand up your
butt and ruptured your cyst "on accident"?
where did he get his medical license, from
the back of a cereal box?
*hugs*

Wow christy, that sounds horrible. I'm so
sorry that you had to go through that
crap. I hope you are feeling better soon.
Oh and if I were you I would have cracked
the vodka bottle already - or maybe some
rum...
I don't understand why or how doctors can
get their phd and then go and be stupid
like that!!!

wow... well that certainly was an
adventure. i'm sorry you had to go through
that.
i've never heard of them having to go
through the back door to find your
ovaries.
question, didn't you want the cyst to
rupture? i'm no expert on cysts, but i did
have them when i was a teenager and while
rupturing was the most painful thing ever
(right up there with back labor!), i
remember feeling soooo much better
afterwards and then they'd be gone. if he
hadn't ruptured it, wouldn't it have
ruptured on it's own? or would it have
just gone away or something?
:hugs:

That just sounds like a terrible
experience.
F U dr.Fu.
Seriously like so many have said ... where
do people like this get the licenses to
practice medicine.
I'm very sorry you went through that, and
I hope you feel better soon.
