Depression Due to Strange Body Structure Posted: 06-01-07 00:49am
hi friends,
im 21 yr old male from India. My problem
is that im gettin depressed due to a
problem of mine. Abt a 5-6 yrs back i
realised that my hips and thighs are
gettin bulky. i never took it seriously.
But slowly i found that its becomin more
like a woman's physiccal structure. Iv no
idea wat this is called or which type of
doctor i contact.
this has simply hit me badly and now im so
ashamed that i dont even feel like goin
outside or not evevn meeting close
friends. I even feel every time i go out
that ppl r lookin at my lower part of the
body.
I never have discussed this problem of
mine with any one, nor my family nor
friends. I work at home so thats not a
problem.
iv never hav had any major health problem.
Nor any body in my family hav had any kind
of such problems.
Is there a solution to this, well i guess
its more llinked to my figure problem than
mental.
I think you need to see a doctor with
regards to your body image. Only the
doctor can tell what's healthy and what's
not. Staying home a lot will only make
your depression worst. Have you tried any
medications or talked to a doctor? To rule
out physical problems first is the first
step. Then the psychiatric diagnosis may
or may not apply to you. Try not to think
about a certain part of your body or look
at it. Look at yourself as a whole, build
self-esteem and some positive coping
skills. Be proactive, seek help from a
medical professional.
There may be something physically wrong
before your psychiatric diagnosis,
although both may apply and go hand in
hand.
I hope you seek help soon. Wishing you the
best.
