Sonogram .. But No Baby !
Posted: 06-01-07 13:34pm

So yesterday was my first initial pregnancy doctors appt. i was SOO excited to see somthing. i went had a papsmear and all that good stuff when it came down to having the sonogram the doctor looked.. and looked. and there was nothing. Crying
or Very sad just a round black hole no baby, no heart beat. He said somthing about there being 3 chromosons instead of two. or either the egg or the sperm where infertile.

This really sucks but i just have to keep thinking to myself that there was never a baby there to begin with. I didn't see a picture, didn't hear a heart beat.

But i guess my question is i wanted to get an opinion.. should i wait it out and go natural and wait for the miscarrage to take place, or get the DNC. (I think thats what he called it) I would like to do the DNC just because i don't wanna bleed for a long heavy period of time (which i heard thats what happened) and on the other hand i don't wanna go through the painful operation. i guess either one would be painful.

Can i get ya'lls input or suggestions? i would really appriciate it

Im soo sorry you had to go through that. Justa heads up this may get moved to the misscarriage forum so ya know where to look.
It really depends on how far along you were supposed to be etc wether wich one would be best, i think either way is a bit painful with cramping etc. I beleive u get put to sleep with the d & C though. But natural misscarriage is also better but you have to keep an eye out in case you get an infection.

if that's what you need to think to get through this, then do it. but you don't have to pretend it didn't happen. you *were* pregnant, you didn't make it up. you were excited about being pregnant and you were excited about planning.

i found out at 13 weeks that my baby had stopped growing at 8. i chose to go with the d&c because i couldn't go about my day to day life waiting for a miscarriage. i just wanted to get it over with.

it's different for everyone, but i didn't have any cramping after mine and i only spotted for about a day. you're asleep during the procedure (i *think* they put everyone to sleep for it, i could be wrong), and you won't feel or remember a thing. they gave me something in my iv and it made me feel silly, i remember laughing because it was all so weird and feeling so inappropriate. after that all i remember is climbing up on the table and the doctor saying something, then i woke up in a recovery room. it was quick and painless (physically).

think about your 2 options and what you think would be best for you. either way, it's going to be difficult.

feel free to pm me if you have any questions or just want to talk. i'm sorry for your loss.

So Sorry That You Are Going Through This

First of all I can't even imagine what you are going through. You must still be in shock. I wanted to tell you that I have had a D&C and I didn't find that it was a painful experience. I had a little mild cramping after but it wasn't any worse than a menstrual cycle. I have also read that many women have really bad cramping when they are having a miscarriage. Ultimately it's your decision and you have to do what you think is best for you and what you think might make it a a bit easier for you. I just wanted to let you know that you don't have to be afraid of having a D&C. If you have any questions please don't hesitate to ask me.

Take care of yourself and I hope that everything works out for you.

I miscarried last March (I ended up getting pregnant 2 weeks later). I didn't have the D & C (I was scheduled for it, but I passed everything the day before the appointment). My Dr. was really adament about the D & C, saying that my bleeding would stop, and that there would be little to no pain. From my experience, the cramping got pretty bad (they felt like labor contractions, which they were to some degree), I passed a lot of clots and I saw the baby after he/she was expelled. I really didn't want the D & C, mainly because it would have been my first surgery, but looking back, I think I would have chosen that option (assuming that my body wouldn't have expelled everything on its own). I know I wasn't much help, but I wanted to tell you my experience since the other posters have had the D & C performed.

I'm really sorry that you are going through this. If you want to talk, please feel free to PM me!

Christina

EDIT: I forgot to mention that I bled for a week or so, where as with the D & C, the bleeding is supposed to stop.
