the Birth Story

ok lets get this started...

at about 6 pm on sunday my mum and i were on our way to walmart for a meeting (for my mum, she works there) and i started getting contractions. they kept getting stronger and stronger and by 730 when the meeting was over they were so bad i could barely walk. then we went to stop by a friends house and by about 830 we decided i should go to the hospital just to be sure everything was ok. so we went to pick up trevor and headed to the hospital. when we got there at about 9 i was still only 2-3 centimeters but i was almost completly thinned. according to the monitors my contractions were about 2-4 minutes apart by this time. the doc decided since my contractions were so close, i was almost a week overdue, and i was GBS positive they would keep me for an hour or two and watch me and get my antibiotics started. so i went to walk the hall for a bit and went to get myself some water, then i took a quick shower.

the nurse came back at about 11 to check me again i was 5 centimeters so they admited me. i was having really bad back labor and the nurse had me go on my hands and knees for 20 minutes (which felt like 5 hours) to try to turn her. she said if i hadnt done that i would not dilate any further

so about 130 the nurse came back in to check me again and i was 6-7 centimeters. she checked twice, once without a contraction and then she tried to check me during a contraction but she had just started to put her fingers inside when all of a sudden my water broke, with her fingers right there, it was helarious. that was the oddest feeling ever (well second only to the actual birth). this was such a releif for me because they said if my water hadent broken by 5 they would break it (which i really didnt want)

now the contractions started to get horrible, the nurse would not offer me anything for the pain (because i had told her in the begining i wanted to try as hard as i could to do it without anything) but i was exausted and she wanted me to try to conserve my energy so she offered to give me some medicine to sleep, at first i didnt want it, but she told me i would still feel the contractions, it would only help me rest in between them. trevor and my mum both encouraged me to take the medicine because i was literally falling asleep standing up. it helped so much, i still felt everything just the same as it was before but i rested more, so it was nice. it wore off by about 4 or so.

then i started feeling like i was gonna poop so bad so the nurse checked me again, but i was still only 7 centimeters so i asked if i could go sit on the toilet and see if i had to go (which i did) and that made the contractions even worse. then about 6 i started feeling like i had to poop again so i asked if i could go to the bathroom again but when she checked me i guess i was completely dilated so she told me if i wanted to push just go ahead and push on the bed. the nurse came back in about 630 and valkyrie's head was right *there* so she called the midwife in, she almost didnt make it in time and she was right down the hall

i got a first degree tear (which felt amazing when she came out, it didnt hurt until i was stitched up lol) and the cord was wraped around her neck, but everything is fine

her apgar at 1 minute was 8 and at 5 minutes it was a 9. she was 8 lbs 10 oz 20.5 in. lots of dark hair, shes perfect. everyone keeps saying she looks just like me (although i dont really see it) i love my baby girl so much

I was getting anxious, I was afraid I had missed it.

It sounds like everything went smoothly. I'm so happy for you! I can't even imagine how happy you must be.

So...when is #2 coming?
