Need Hysterectomy- Large Uterus- Severe Displasia/carcinoma Posted: 02-26-04 15:18pm
My pap came back with carcinoma in situ.
Had a punch biopsy and that came back with
severe displasia. While waiting for
results, I started feeling pregnant-
though I knew this was not possible.
Frequent urination, low back pain, lump
above pelvic bone. Doctor did an
internal exam thought my uterus was large
and that it may be fibroids or possible an
enlarged ovary. Scheduled sonogram. The
sonogram did not show fibroids. It did
show "normal functional" cysts. What it
did show was my uterus is enlarged! I
guess about 12 weeks gestation in size.
The doctor wants to do a hysterectomy.
But first a cone biopsy for the cis, a
d&c and laproscopy to see what is
going on. I am a bit nervous. He did
mention uterine cancer but, didn't really
feel it was possible because little to no
risk factors. I'm only 33.
Can endometrosis cause uterine
enlargement? Wouldn't fibroids be visible
on the sonogram? I am not having any
abnormal bleeding. Anyone have anything
like this before???

I suggest you get second and third
opinions. Not that your Dr. Is wrong but
incase he is missing something. And this
is serious buisness. You cannot take it
lightly. It will effect the rest of your
life. Sonograms are not always completely
accurate. I had a hyterectomy because of
a very large cyst that the sonogram showed
was on my ovary. I also had problems with
displasia but it was not as serious as
yours. After surgery they found that it
was attached to my abdominal wall. I'm
sure it would probably detect the fibroids
though. They really can't tell some
things untill they explore it in surgery.
A friend had a hysterectomy because of
dysplasia and when they went in they found
an enormous amounts of endometrious matter
in her which took an extra 3 hours to
remove it all. They did not know she had
it until they went in. Doctors are not
perfect and neither is medical technology.
I hope tje best for you and if it is
carcinoma then in my opinion you should
definetly have the hysterectomy. And you
should deal with it as soon as possible.
Just know all your options and risks and
weigh them thoroughly! See my other forum
posts. Post hysterectomy back pain-spinal
block? And my reply to unneccessary
hysterectomy if you would like insight
into my experience with this. Make sure
you have a support group to help you
through this. I wish you the best of luck
and I will say a prayer for you. God is
the only perfect doctor! And I know he
will be there with you through this.

Chinarose-
thank you for the reply. I am getting a
second opinion. I decided that a few days
ago and cancelled my first surgery. I am
going to the doctor I used to go to. I
really had a good feeling about that
doctor and his practice. I think I will
be more comfortable there. It was a new
doctor that had recommended that other
options. Thank you for the prayers.
