I just got off the phone with my boss, and she just told me that I likely won't have a job when I am ready to come back from Maternity Leave. LWTF???? I think that maybe she has forgotten that its illegal for her to do that. I am so po'd right now. But then the more I think about it.. the 10 yrs I have been there, and oh....I can take her to court because its illegal, should definitely set her in her place. They told me that when I was finished Maternity leave, I could bring my baby with me to work. Now she has decided that it may not work for them.. Hmm all I do for them is cook dinner and drive her kids where they need to be. But at the same time, she legally has to have my job available for me when I am done maternity leave. This could be very interesting for sure....

Has anyone else out there had this happen to them??

Do you work for an actual company or a person? What do you do?

I would be extremely mad, especially if you gave them 10 years!!! I am so sorry.

I am a Nanny for these people. BUT... the father owns his own business in the basement of their home and I am pretty sure that I am filed under his business as an employee. But from what I know, it does not matter if its personal or a business because I pay my taxes !!!

Should be interesting........ and yes I am livid!

I think thats discusting... they cant do that, espeshily if you have been with them 10years, having a baby isnt an illness. they shud have the job for you when u go bk, or even if u are willing to take the lil one to worm with you.
maybe they are concerned that you will give more attention to your baby than her children thats what she might be worried about.

wot she doing while ur on maternity leave>?

She is staying at work. She has summer sitters lined up.

They are the ones who told me I could take my baby to work. I only work 3.5 hours per day. So, its not really even an issue. Plus the kids are 15 and 10 in the fall they do their own things now. So, there wouldnt be much more attention to my baby or them as they just go about their own business. My job is.. making sure the kids do their homework, making dinner and driving the kids where they need to be. So.. all in all nothing major at all.

I think that she is po'ed at me because I stood up for myself the other day when she hired me to take care of her daughter for the night, and then dumped her friends kid on me to take care of for free and I told her that I wasnt doing that, I had no idea the other child was even going to be there. I found out when she arrived. I wasnt impressed and I told her that I did not care who paid me, but that she was going to make sure I was paid my 7 hours of work for having her. My boss knows I would have had no issues taking care of her, had someone at least asked me if I didn't mind. But nothing was said to me at all.

Anyways, I just looked it up in the Labour Standards Code for NS, and she does have to bring me back to work when I am ready.. So, we will see what happens.

She told me that if my baby is sick or that if I have to take the baby to the doctor, it just wasn't going to work for her. Seems to me that she had kids, had the same things happen and she still has her job. I am just so fed up. I wouldn;t be surprised if my doctor puts me off on Stress leave Wed when I see her. Cause I am definitly stressed and I sure did not need this 5.5 weeks away from being due to have my first baby. If only I could write the words I feel about her on her right now!!!!!

Talk soon,

Mary
