No Fruits ... only Veggies ?!?!?!
Posted: 06-04-07 12:14pm

Hello, all! My 5 & 1/2 month old son has been taking solids for approximately 2 months. The pediatrician instructed only veggies to start; the thought being that the sweetness of fruit might prevent him from eating veggies.

So up to this point he was only eating carrots, squash and corn, and sweet potatoes; he never liked/ate his greens (and he is turning a faint shade of orange Shocked ).

We decided to introduce fruits this week...started with bananas & pears. He would not eat either...his mouth clamped shut tighter than a steel drum Rolling Eyes .

Has anyone run into this? Do we keep trying?

i just read it can take up to 15 times for a baby to develop a taste for something. i'd keep trying but don't force it on him.

i know it has nothing to do with your question, but may i ask why he started on solids so early?

He is above the 95% in length and weight (at 5 & 1.2 months he is almost 21 pounds and almost 28 inches long) and was taking almost 40 ounces of formula daily - even with cereal mixed in to two of his bottles (he hates water we could not supplement the formula to help fill him up). The pediatrician wanted to reduce the formula quantity...

...and here I realize I should have been more specific. At about 3 & 1/2 months we stopped putting cereal in with formula and gave him 3 tablespoons of cereal before his morning bottle. Veggies started around 4 months.

We thought it was early too.

Ava seems to rather veggies over fruits. It may take a little while, but he'll get use to it.
