Prognosis And Testing: Genital Warts
Posted: 06-04-07 12:37pm

Hi I contracted genital warts from my partner when we together 6 months(we are now together almost 3 1/2 years). I had one visible wart which was treated with cream and I have not had any outbreaks since. My cervical smears have all been normal to date. My GUM clinic never really explained anything to me and i have had to rely on websites for info. However there is often conflicting info out there.
Can the virus ever leave your system? (most websites seem to say that I will have it forever).
Can I be tested to see if I still have the virus? (I undertsand that since I had warts my antibody levels for the virus will be raised in any case, so a measure of this can't tell you if you have the virus or not).
What is the best source of information to give people if it ever happens that I have another partner (although I am happy in my long term relationship it is something I have to bear in mind) or for friends to explain without scaremongering? Is there a specific website or other source of info you would recommend?
Thank you.
