Hi everyone! Just found out I'm preggers
last Thursday! I'm so excited. Not many
symptoms though. Just slight cramping
(pulling and streching), peeing a whole
lot, constipation and hungry. Thank God
there is no morning sickness. I think that
today I'm 5 weeks. I have a doctors appt.
on the 18th of this month. Bad news is my
insurance dosen't cover pregnancy, birth
or anything in between. Anyone else in
their first trimester and or first
pregnancy? What are you symptoms? And have
you been making any baby plans?

I have been planning for a while. We
started actively trying in November. I
just found out three days ago. I am really
early (4 weeks Wednesday). I really hope I
have twins but I know it's not that
likely. I went in for a blood test today
due to some other issues so I should know
tomorrow how everything is going so far.

I think I'm gonna try and apply for
pregnancy Medicaid I'm not sure if they'll
give it to me though. But if they do then
I'll have to postpone my wedding until
after the baby is born. Because my hubby
to be makes too much money for us to
qulaify for the gov. assistance. I have
regular insurance just dosen't cover
pregnancy!!! We originally planned on
getting married on July 26 2008 then have
kids. But as you see the baby thing came
first so it kinda threw us off. We weren't
planning on it so soon. But it's great
though we are both really excited!! Don't
feel pregnant though it's kinda weird!!! I
geuss I always thought I'd be sick and
have all the symptoms all at once!!!

If you can't get on medicaid, does your
hubby to be's insurance cover pregnancy?
If so, maybe you could consider a small,
simple wedding ceremony now and then have
a larger ceremony or reception after the
baby is born. I know several people that
have done it that way; but many don't want
too. Just a thought!!!

Now that I'm pregnant it is considered as
a preexisting condition! I've alresdy
tried that route. But yes his insurance
does cover maternity so I'll go on his
plan when we do get married!

that's what we did. we were getting
married on october 21st 2006, then we
found out i was pregnant and due on
october 31st 2006. we postponed the
wedding and i got on medicaid. we were
moving to a different state when i was 34
weeks and i would've lost my medicaid so
we ended up getting married legally so i
could be on my husband's insurance. nobody
knows we're married (1 year on sunday!),
and we're having our official wedding on
october 13th 2007.

Of course, the preexisting condition.
Insurance always finds a way to stick it
to you!!!! Good
luck with getting on medicaid!!! I'm sure
that you will be able to get on it, they
don't turn down too many pregnant women!!!

pregnancy isn't usually considered a
preexisting condition. have you looked
into this?
i was already going to lose my medicaid
because we were moving out of state,
that's why we got married. i got on his
insurance immediately and lost my medicaid
(which i didn't need anymore).

Yes I called my insurance company to see
if I could add on that benifit and I
called his Insurance company to see that
if we got married now would they cover the
pregnancy and they said no because it's a
pre-exsiting condition.

Is there any way you could cheat it and
play ignorant, i mean your only 4 weeks,
that is early to find out. You could call
saying your planning on getting pregnant
could we add it. Then around 6 weeks be
like oh look im already pregnant?????

Hi Rachel,
Quick question. Is your fiance's insurance
through his work? That is, is it a group
policy? If so, and you and he get married,
federal law mandates that they cover your
pregnancy, even though you are already
pregnant. Here is a quote from
insure.com:
"Federal law bars group health insurance
plans that cover maternity from
considering pregnancy a pre-existing
condition. This means that if you change
group health plans while you're pregnant,
your new group health insurer (as long as
it covers maternity) can't deny claims
related to your pregnancy."
And here is the link: [removed]
Hope that helps and good luck!

Hey thanks for the info!!! I'm gonna check
into that. I don't have group covarage,
mines an individual plan! But he has group
covrage. Do you think it'll make a
diffrence? Well if you don't know that's
okay Im gonna check out this site anyways.
Thanks again

If your fiance has group coverage, then it
seems to me that if you get married, you
will be covered. Assuming, of course, that
you can be enrolled immediately after you
get married.
If so, it may be time to plan a quick
wedding!

and some places only have certain dates
when you can add people to your coverage.
you should definitely have him look into
this and see when he'd be able to add you
(if you decide to go with this plan).
if i didn't have insurance i would've had
to pay over $25,000 in hospital and doctor
bills (i had a c-section).

Hopefully, they will allow you to enroll
immediately because you just got married
instead of making you wait until the open
enrollment period.
I did not have a C-section and I still
would have had to have paid $16,000 for
prenatal care and the birth of my son.
Even with good insurance, we still had to
pay $1,600. I guess it's not cheap any way
you look at it.

Wow. I feel really blessed. With my
insurance through work, my maternity
coverage is 100%. I don't even have
co-pays for my doctor's appointments!!!!
My husband's insurance is my secondary,
but I haven't needed it for anything but
my prescriptions. His coverage is better
than mine when it comes to that. So I use
his for prescriptions and mine for
everything else.

Wow you still had to pay money with
Insurance?? I'm so clueless over here, and
obviously extremely lucky. We dont have to
drop a penny for anything medical here
specially having a baby.
What about maternity leave, do you get one
year of mat leave paid basically by govt??
