Im was just wondering how much I should pay an unlicensed babysitter. Since I'm still pretty young I have friend that are in high school or just graduated and they said they would help bbabysit. I'm just not sure how much to pay them. Since they are still young I don't think they shoudl get payed as much as an adult babysitter but I can't think of a good price.
Brayden is almost 4 months if that should be factored in and he is a very good baby, not high maintence at all!

So what do you girls pay for daycare? And what do you think would \be reasonable?

i personally think you should pay min. wage. which is 6.50 an hour.

i dont think the age matters at all with how much they should be paid, they're still watching your baby just like someone who is older would. i'm a highschool student and i used to watch 2 kids and their mom paid me crap and they were baaaaaaaad, thats when i decided id pay my baysitters min. wage just to be fair... you might not think thats a good idea, and im sure itll add up, but they do have their childs life in your hands.

just my opinion Laughing

depends on the state..

Id just make sure whoever you do leave the baby with is highly qualified and trustworthy.. Id say at least like 5 bucks an hour or so depending..

oh ok...........jenniek just ask whoever is going to be watching your kid how much they want to get paid and talk it out with them is your best bet.my sitter at first said 45 a week for 2 kids and i thought that was not enough so i paid her 20 a day and i worked 4 days a week.

alot of familys out there are only making min wage or a little more than min wage. so it would be pointless for those familys to go back to work. they would only being making enough to pay for a sitter.

I am hemmorhaging childcare money right now. I don't know why I bother to work. We pay Hannah's sitter 180 bucks a week and she is excellent, but it's nauseating to me to pay her that much. She has 20 years of experience and her home is a licensed day care. genevas old sitter had me pay her 100 bucks a week to start, and then we gave her a raise and paid 125 a week, which I thought was pretty fair. She wasn't licensed, but that didn't make any difference to me-it was the quality that counts. I sure wish she still did day care. I guess you should probably propose a number that you think is fair and go from there. I would caution you to please be sure that whomever is watching your little one be very qualified because scary things happen, and especially with a little baby you really need someone patient and qualified (no matter how great your kidsd are!)

Good luck.

that's pretty much the boat we're in right now. I wouldn't be making very much after paying a sitter, and I already don't trust anyone enough with .Alyvia's care. I'd rather stay home with her and know for sure that she's okay.

Well, I take that back. One person I trust her with is .Aaron's mom, but she has her own schedule and really enjoys her spontenaity and I wouldn't feel comfortable burdening her with watching .Alyvia.

Man, I wished it would have been $6.50/hr here. I would have made much better money as a teenager. Rolling Eyes

Thanks for the replys.

The girls I'm considering are between 17-19 years old. Two of which are my best friends and very skilled with children. I want to make sure I pay them whats fair since they are such good friends of mine but with me being a full time student (even durign the summer) and only working part time money is tight!!! I would only need them about 4-5 hours about 2 times a week this summer, but then more once fall comes around.

I have asked them what they expect to get paid but they always say they will do it for free and stuff, but I don't think thats fair. And I'm sure thats just said since we are friends..

I dunno.. I wish I didn't have to work or go to school so I could just stay home with him. But being a technically 'single' mom thats not an option.

I always gave around $5 an hour. It depended whether the sitter was actually interacting with my daughter (playing, reading to her, etc) or a warm body. I would always kick in a bit more if they cleaned up after themselves.

5-6 an hour would be a good rate if only 2times a wk and 4-5 hours. I would also set ground rules such as not to take baby out in a car or not to have anyone over and such.
