Early Waking , Please Help Me Before I Go Nuts ! Posted: 06-04-07 23:38pm
Max is 2 years old and for the last couple
of months has been waking up at 5am
(sometimes as early as quarter to five)
every morning. He is raring to go and
full of beans but I just can't take it
anymore. I know it sounds silly but I
just can't cope with such early starts, I
need my sleep or I am evil. It doesn't
matter what time I put him to bed, even if
it's ten at night he still wakes at 5am.
Anyone else's child the same? Any
suggestions before I jump off a cliff just
to get some peace?

babe my two did that for a while. it
completely kills you i
coped by going to bed when they did at
8am. is it light in his room? maybe the
light mornings are confusing him. i got
some thicker curtains and now they get up
between 7-8am which is heaven lol
joseph did that for a while i would keep
his window blind open at night so he would
be up with the sun, but now we keep em
shut, it gets pitch black with em shut
practically so he sleeps alot longer now
then before. i think now here the sun
rises around 5ish its insane and it doesnt
go down until after 9.

will he play quietly in his room for a
while so you can get a bit more sleep?
some days finn wakes up between 6-7,
that's not terribly early but i'm so not a
morning person. on those days i'll just
put some toys in his crib with him and
he'll play by himself for about an hour.
i think i'd go crazy if he started trying
to get up at 5. sorry jules!
joseph sometimes plays in his room quietly
or he used to in the mornings, now we have
to lock his door at night since he can
open it and i dont want him wandering the
house while we are asleep. he used to wake
up at 5am when i was pregnant between
5-6am but then i used to go to bed at 8pm
right after him lol. otherwise id get no
sleep. but with the room darkened he
sleeps until around 7-8am now. some nights
we stay up late and i beat myself up the
next day. hopefully maybe he will play
quietly, jordynnes like that in the
mornings she will occupy herself for alil
while while josephs still asleep so i can
get some more sleep

Thanks for your help ladies!
I already do darken his room by putting up
extra curtains and no, he won't play
quietly by himself. He's in his own bed
now so he just opens his door and comes
into my bedroom.
I think I'm just gonna have to accept I've
got an early bird on my hands!

My daughter is too, and i put one of those
child proof doorknob covers on the inside
of the door, cause i was worried she would
get out of her rom, and fall down the
stairs half asleep, but since she figured
she CANT get out o her room she plays
quietly in her room for at least an hour!

We all need a night nanny that works from
8 to 8. That'd be wonderful! lol

Trey is the same way Jules and I want to
cry. Now matter what time he goes to bed
(It's usually 7:30) he's up at 5-5.30.
Sometimes even 4.30 (like today) We've
tried keeping him up longer till 8.30-9
and it's even worse, he'll get up bright
and early. And he only naps for about 1
hour a day around 12-1. I'm yawning as I
write this. lol
I think in our case it may have to do with
REALLY noisy neighbours and cats that run
around all night over our heads so I'm
hoping once we move, he'll break this
habit.
Yesterday I was so tired, I fell back
asleep and woke up and there was oatmeal
allllll over my bed cause I had made him
some and then passed out after getting
ready for work. Needless to say, I had to
take a cab to daycare and work.

Oh boy, it sounds like you are having as
bad a time as me! It's really hard, isn't
it? I can be really evil in the mornings
when I am woken too early and I hate it
when I hear myself being really short with
Max. I usually pick up a bit later on but
by evening I'm absolutely shattered. I
end up going to bed early myself just to
try and get a good night's sleep but I
don't feel I can do that too often cos
then I don't get to have any time with my
DH.
Ah bum.
