hysterectomy on march 23rd. I am 27 and a
single mom of 3 boys. I am so scared. I
dont no what to expect after all this is
over. I am having it done because of
exsessive bleeding ,and cramping ..I have
tryed everything and this is a last
resort.I am done having children so that
is not a concern for me. I am just really
scared of this whole thing. I am a
diabetic also so that is another concern
healing wise since I am a slow healer..Can
someone please tell me what to expect, and
how long should I have help here with me
after surgery? Thanx so much smileypoo27

Hey there. I'm surprized no one has
answered you yet. I am new here too. I
am 29 years old. I had a hysterectomy 10
months ago. They took out my
uterus,cervix,and appendix but left both
overies. I do not have diabetes though.
My surgery was for a huge cyst they
believed was on my ovary which after
having my surgery I found out that it was
on the wall of my adbomen. See my post in
the forum as a reply to unneccessary
hysterectomy. I was scared too. I had
never had surgery before. You will need
someone there for awhile. At least 3 or 4
weeks maybe longer since you are diabetic.
I was in the bed for bout 4 weeks. But
everyone heals at different rates. I know
some people who were in bed for only 2
weeks. You will have a long scar at the
bottom of your stomach but don't worry it
will be below the bikini line. Are you
having general anestesia and a spinal
block? I suggest you find out if you
don't knoe and carefully consider the
spinal block. I had a bad experience with
that but many have not had any problems
with it. If it is not neccessary, do not
get it. You can read about my experience
with that on the forum titled post
hysterectomy back pain- spinal block?.
Most women I talked to who had a
hysterectomy said it was the best thing
they ever did. Though this has not been
my experience. When my cycle time comes
around I still have symptoms of a period
even though I don't have one anymore.
Your experience will be uniqely your own.
I can tell you the good and bad things but
my experience will not be the same as
yours. It depends on too many factors.
Will you have your ovaries removed?, who
is doing the surgery?, who is your
anestesiologist?, what your health
conditions are?, how your body responds?
And many other factors. But don't worry
too much. That will lower your imuune
sytem. You will be fine. There is alot
of medicinal technology these days. I
only suggest that you are completely
comforatable with your doctors and that
you should always get a second opinion.
Make sure you have a support system to
help you through this time in your life.
You won;t just need help with your kids
but also you will need someone to take
care of you too. This may be the best
thing you ever did. You never know. It's
kinda like child birth. You don't know
until you experience it. And every women
experience is unique. Remember how you
worried with the first baby? Then the
second and third time you were better able
to handle it and yourealised that you
should not have been so worried the first
time. Well take that heed. Good luck on
your surgery and remember that god is with
you and your kids.
